How do you feel when someone misinterprets your culture?

Ha ha!!! I remember when I joined my college I was often questioned by my classmates about where I am from in terms of my culture and my response was Orissa. The moment I used to say this they'd be taken aback and would reveal that they had expected me to be a south indian or a Bengali. I was often dissapointed whenever I heard such opinions of theirs. Did anyone here go through such a moment ?

I don't live in your country and can't understand why people should be surprised. India has so many different peoples and cultures that such situations must happen very often. What is there to be disappointed about? Did anyone discriminate against you?

Kind of yes. For some time. But then I was fine with those people as well.

@Swayamsiddha Btw, I haven't got the foggiest idea where Orissa is. Why don't you mention this in your post? Not all members are from India.

Liberalism is all about manipulating each others cultures and make them follow singular liberal thoughts. Considering how liberalism is degrading cultures all over. I am not surprised how some other cultures are ready to take shots on each other.

why do they mistake you for being south indian or bengali, instead of from orissa?

Cause my language and looks are similar to those who are either Bengalis or South Indian.
