Last year I ate the first strawberries in March, they were ripe and delicious. This year, the weather has been cooler and humid. Up to a few days ago, the strawberries were pale and with no taste. April started with sunny and warm days, we finally got delicious and inexpensive strawberries from Spain. Last Saturday, I profited of an Aldi offer and bought a one kilo (2 pounds) box of strawberries, firm and tasty. I served some cut in pieces and macerated in orange juice Some others with waffles and whipped cream. Some to make a strawberry cheese cake (that you can see in my photo). Do you like strawberries? Do you have a favorite recipe for those tasty fruits?

Here in Switzerland is still not very warm, but Spain is hotter and all the fruits come from Spain or south of Italy.

That is a photo of a perfect slice of cheesecake. It is difficult to get fresh ripe and firm strawberries here.I would like to eat a strawberry just the way it is or with whipped cream.

The cheese cake is very good, I was proud of myself. In summer they are not firm when they are ripe, they are better in this season.

@LadyDuck Since I am living in the mountainside, the cold weather is at random. Strawberries are more abundant during the coldest month.

@Shavkat May be in your country, here cold means freezing cold, the strawberries need a mild temperature.

I do love strawberries. I'm glad that you got some delicious ones to enjoy. I eat them every single day, and now my husband is starting to eat them too, just in a dish by themselves.

@LadyDuck That is my favorite way to enjoy them. Once they get soft and less appealing, they make for good fillings in crepes and muffins and things like that.

purchased strawberry topped cake for anniversary, years ago.
I like strawberries, but I don't go out of my way to eat them too often. I will eat strawberry shortcake sometimes and have purchased a cake from work in the past that has strawberry glaze on the top. I will hunt through my photos used on the previous site to see if I can find one to show you. We got that for our anniversary some years back. When I buy strawberries in the summer months, it's mostly for my husband and kids. I do have frozen ones currently for smoothies, though along with other berries included in the package. Your cheesecake looks delicious.

I like strawberry shortcake, I make one time by time. In late May I will have fresh strawberries from the garden. I use the frozen ones to prepare homemade frozen yogurt and "strawberry Margarita".

It is not actually my favorite fruit. Although, I super like it when it is with milk and some sugar. So tasty. I also like it as a flavor for pastries and ice cream. Oh, that strawberry cheesecake makes me drool at this very moment. I haven't tasted a strawberry cheesecake yet but I know it will be so delicious. Here, the cheesecakes in restaurants are mostly of blueberry. I wish I can taste a strawberry cheesecake someday.

@LadyDuck Yes, me too, if they are already sweet even if not firm. I hate sour strawberry. Wow, so you make them into yogurt and ice cream. Don't you get tired cooking , baking and making yogurt and ice cream. Then, you also do gardening and do some computer works. You are a super woman!

I remember that fresh strawberries were all the time available both in California and Florida, also in early Spring. Those I bought come from Spain, my strawberries will be ripe by mid-May, this year may be end of May.

@LadyDuck I remember picking wild blackberries with my mama and my aunt Helen when I was young. They bring back such memories. I don't know why strawberries have leaped into my favorite spot. Blackberries are a second for sure. I guess it is because there are no more wild blackberry bushes in my area and my attempts to grow them have been horrible.

@Shellyann36 I picked up some wild blackberry in a wooden area near our home. I also got a branch and I tried to grow a plant from it. I failed. The year after I planted two ripe blackberries and I was able to grow several plants from the berries.

Ours were late here as well. This year I haven't had any here in Florida, but always love the beautiful flavor of the Ohio berries. I think they are better. They don't ripen until June and so I will enjoy them when I go north the first week of June. I love them plain or make the shortcake dessert.
