Our House Shook Last Night

No, we didn't have an earthquake, we had violent thunderstorms. It happened several times over the night last night. It was loud enough and strong enough to wake me up with a start!! It was also raining torrentially. It has been a very dry winter so while it was noisy and violent it was much needed. It continued to rain and thunder off and on all day today. We just hunkered down and stayed in. I cleaned our refrigerator. I am getting things ready for us to leave and I wanted to get all the perishable food into our tummies or into the garbage. Wednesday is garbage day and we need to get as much in as possible for this one last time.

It sounds scary to hear that loud sounds in your place. Although, I prefer that striking sounds than an earthquake. It would be a disaster. Take care there, my friend.

It was annoying but I wasn't scared just that it disturbed my sleep.

Florida really needed the rain. It barely rained at all the four months we were there. I only remember a couple of quick passing showers. Florida does have the most interesting and loudest thunderstorms I've ever seen. Wish I were there. lol

It does have wonderful thunderstorms and the sheets of rain that were falling. It was a very sunny and dry winter. I am looking forward to being back home, however. lol

I hate the storms with thunder that shakes the house. It freaks my dog out, but it does the same thing to me!

Yes, this would have done that, it felt like it was right on top of us. Not fun but I went right back to sleep.

That must have been a violent storm if it shook the house. Even being indoors, I feel uncomfortable during a thunderstorm. I don't like lightnings.

Wind was very strong here too and blowing a lot of things around and knocking them over. Like you does not scare me but wakes me up yes. Glad you are okay and I am packing things ready to leave too.

@BelleStarr No, not at all. I am moving into a flat and I donĀ“t like that at all but that is all there is for the moment. Does not mean to say I will stay there though as my idea is to look for something better in time.

I thought you had an earthquake, there was one yesterday in Italy and I have heard from another member they felt a quake in Chile. The one in Chile pretty strong 6.2 Magnitude.

No, not an earthquake, the soil is so sandy here in Florida we would probably end up living in Peking.

So they have thunderstorms in Florida? Surely that's not allowed while you are still there?

Evidently, I don't have as much clout as I thought or maybe it is because Dianne has now back north lol

Those are powerful storms. I don't think I've actually felt my house shake. Other than an earthquake when I was living in California.

@BelleStarr I wonder if it's because it's closer to the equator. I remember when I lived on Guam, being very close to the equator the storms there were very loud, though they didn't shake the house, only because we had cinder block homes for government housing.

Mostly I love a good thunderstorm but a few years ago we had a really loud one. I was sure the lightning was coming into bed with me.

The only thing I find scary is when the lightning is close to the house, my friend's house has been hit several times.

@BelleStarr I don't like the lightning either. This particular night it was really frightening. I love the thunder but unfortunately you can't have one without the other.

that is my life every time we have a storm or just some wind. We live in a trailer, so it just shakes and it is kind of terrifying. I love the rain and I love monsoon season, but the damage it does to my house, eek.

Oh my, yes I imagine your shaking is rather more than mine since ours is a house not a trailer.

@BelleStarr Enjoy it. I just got a call from a cousin that I haven't heard from in over 25 years. She grew up in MI and now lives in FL. She is an assistant manager at a JC Penny store somewhere near or in Orlando. I was so happy to hear her voice, I don't know how I'll ever settle down to go to sleep tonight. She's up in MI visiting with family since the weather up here isn't too bad.

Some of those thunder claps make the house shake. We haven't had a violent thunderstorm recently but I've experienced them in the past. Can't believe it's time for you to head back home
