Dollar General Employees Stealing?

This week there was a $5 off of a $25 coupon in the sales paper, yes they have them on Saturday but this one was for the week days. I needed to restock dog food and dog chow was on sale for $9.50 for 14 pounds, I had a manufacturer for the dog food $3.00 off. Nivea lotion was on sale for $3.50 and I had a manufacturer coupon for $2.00. I got 2 dog food and 2 lotion.$19.00 for dog food and $7.00 for the lotion = $26 Add tax = $28.60 I gave them the $5 off $25 Then I gave him the other coupons - $3.00 x 2 = $6 dog food. $2.00 x 2 = $4 For a total of $15 off in coupons. I should have paid $13.60 but this guy did not take off the $5 store coupon and he charged me $18.60 So I came back around when I seen what he did and he called the child manager. He refused to give me the $5 but offered me my money back, I said "Okay I want my money back and the coupons." He refused to give me the coupons but I could have the money, not the full price but the price after I used the coupons. Well that is selling my coupons! OR...... Are they doing this to many people and collecting the money at the end of the day? After all they have the coupon and its the same as cash. I am not sure if they can do that but I do not understand why they refuse to give me the coupons back with the money. This has happened to me before, where they pretended to scan in their store coupon. I am calling corporate and asking them why they continue to do that, I could have went to walmart and not stood in line 30 minutes.

Dollar General is not my favorite place to shop. They do a lot of strange things I find.

You'd have to wonder about their ethics wouldn't you?

Now that's like stealing coupons. I have never used coupons before and I don't know how it really works but I do understand from your discussion.

I would too, it sounds like theft to me also. You know which ones are manufacturer coupons I think I would let those companies know also as they probably consider it theft also.

@andriaperry That saves them money. The others the company they are from pays that so nothing out of the stores pocket. The computer might be programmed not to accept it if the total goes below the limit with other discounts. But their coupon should say that on it. And even then you should have got it back to use later if you wished as it legally was not used. I have received coupons back before when they were not valid for some reason.

That does make you wonder. You would not like, not one bit, the price that I pay for Sally's Merrick chow. I think eating that gold laced food has cut back her little seizure episodes.

@andriaperry Maybe every 3 months now, suddenly Sally comes to me cause she needs me to hold her while she goes through the few minutes of terror. Used to be once every 3 weeks or so. So that sixty five dollars is worth it and then some.

@andriaperry oh no way. I would have asked for the manager and if that creep was the manager I would have gotten his name. Well, I would have gotten it anyway in this whole scenario. I’ve had a smartphone for 10 years now so it is second nature to just look up info like a phone # online. I would have called and complained about the store and the guy right in front of him.

I personally think that person isn't too bright, but either way it's good that you are contacting corporate. Even if ignorance is the cause it needs to be dealt with.

Why did they not give you the store discount? That sounds fishy to me.
