One Two Three Four

The last few weeks or so, I seemed to have spent a lot of time wandering in the back garden, counting...
I planted some garlic, five at first, but found only four growing (happily). I planted a few more, and one got its young green bud chopped off by the hose (from my carelessness I guess ).
---
My orchid pot in the back garden (I think it might be Cymbidium, ordinary brown flowers) suddenly showed a fat flower stem a week ago. Why only one for God's sake? (I used to have about 9 every year in the past!)
Then a few days later, I found another flower stem, then another, then another...
I think I have become nuts, wandering in the back garden lately, counting, 12345... (I found the 6th today.)
THAT made me think of an old song by Feist, 1234 (you can find it easily on youtube). However, the parody which made fun of Ipods, is quite hilarious.
Mad TV's parody on Apple's commercials which feature Feist's song 1234. The always hilarious Nicole Parker plays Feist and sings about Apple iPods.

@ivanituut 6 right now, if the storm outside doesn't break any, 6 should remain. If I am lucky, there should be more coming out. I am still waiting.

I understand you. As soon as I get up, I go to the garden and start talking to my plants

@JudyEv How did you get the seedling for butternuts (it is another name for a type of pumpkin, am I right?)? I am thinking of planting some in the back garden (any pumpkin or edible stuff will do). Our backyard has plenty of room for something to crawl around. (Should I just go buy the veggies from the stores, then removing the fresh seeds?)

I so wanted to plant capsicums, but it has to be the red ones. We were very successful once, but ours all seemed to be greenish or with a mix of colors. So odd! (That was two decades ago!). I tried cucumbers many times, even beans, but never got anything (the snails got them before they even got to 10cm height, so unfair!).

What sort of fruit trees do you have there? Relatives keep persuading me to plant fruit trees, but except the two lemon trees (I caved in a year ago), I have nothing else. A family friend now persuades me to have a mandarin tree. I am still thinking about that.

I love gardening but today my gardens are covered in three inches of ice. It is not spring here in Canada

@YrNemo we run away too, anywhere south, but had to be here for the surgery, this ice is unusual , what a mess it made, accidents, trees down. I want to go to the Y to do some serious walking, hope it’s melting as I write.

@DianneN My place is only famous for the roses. They bloom almost all year round here. No deer problem at my area, but we caught a few strangers come into our property pinching our roses. We took their photos! (Weird, because the bush that one tried to steal the roses, happened to be one with giant spiky thorns.)

There are worse things to be doing than wandering about in the back garden, just counting!!

(shh, the Chinese neighbor's luffa came to my side, and there have been some female + male flowers coming with the vines. It is interesting counting the flowers, sort them out in right genders, then counting the bees or ants which busy working their butts off... )

When I plant a garden I haunt it...counting all the little sprouts...then I count the flower buds...I must be obsessed.

@YrNemo really? but you were able to grow something so that makes you a 'green' person.

I told my children I am getting old... I remember seeing my grandma did the same (wandering in the gardens counting this or that) when she was in her 50s.
