Preparing for the Big One.

My daughter and I passed by the supermarket for food supply. Not one for canned goods, my daughter was shocked seeing our trolley filled with cans. She left me a moment to order brunch. Her why received a trenchant reply: I am preparing for the Big One. The answer left her more shock but we chose to savor the Longalog for me and the Bangsalog for her. I got my loot but at a pharmacy stop near our home, she bought me washproof plasters, gauze pad, wet tissues, betadine, and first aid paper tape. My turn to ask and she incisively muttered: You pack a GO BAG for the BIG ONE, with water and crackers and medical supplies. In case of fire resulting from the quake, what do you do, cook like you are celebrating Christmas? Ooooops. Actually, during the deluge Ondoy brought in 2009, I was the able one who brought food and bread to many of my devastated loved ones. I did think of cooking good food in case of the Big One. But I suppose my daughter is correct, the Big One scenario isn't a party. Silly me.

At least you're prepared so you'll be a long way ahead of many others.

Actually, I want others to prepare, too. In a 2003 MMEIRS study, the Metro Manila population of 9,932,560 could yield a casualty of 113, 600. That does not count the severely injured. Now, the population of Metro Manila by day is 15 million by day and 13 million by night. The hospitals would be very busy in case of the Big One. So would the rescuers and the firemen. The people must be able to care for themselves.

It's always good to have a few days of food in case of emergencies.

@Letranknight2015 Have you prepared your GO BAG? We need to have one, so we could help others if the situation becomes grim.

Disasters require emergency preparedness. The aftermath of the Ondoy deluged rendered the grocery stores empty, from bread and rice to gallons of water and cold cuts. I was meditating on the immediacy of the situation, thanks for reminding that a devastation could last many days and even months. Have you prepared you flashlight and power tools, your gallons of water, etcetera?

@eileenleyva I remember one time we had a typhoon the stores are overcrowded even though there's black out all over the place.

With war looming because of the air attacks by the US, France, and UK on Syria, loading up on canned goods and basic necessities is a good idea.

@eileenleyva Russia already said that they will retaliate. Saw online that Chinese warships will join Russia. Hate to say it but in this war we are in the crossfire.

@allen0187 We have been in the crossfire for the longest time. The Zamboanga Siege and the Marawi Disaster were attempts for the ISIS to gain a foothold on the south, the Philippines being an ally of the United States. Last year, the 6th fleet rushed through the Pacific to join the 7th fleet, when China was asserting its superiority in our part of the world. War is inevitable. It is man's history, from the days of Israelites versus the Philistines, war brings the story. We are at the days of Revelation. The Gog and the Magog are in position. The impending meet in May by Nokor and the US might spark the dreaded war. Sigh. I pray for the salvation of the good. The bad can go to Hades, it's what they want anyway. As for me, I will attend to whom I can save, literally and spiritually. I think I have to make a trip to the Reconciliation Room. I reprimanded one young mother who has not prioritized getting married. She felt bad, I think, because when I went to see her at her job, she was not there any longer. I did hurt someone.

I think it is better to be prepared than feel sorry later. I am not saying bad things will happen.

Earthquakes are occurrences in the ring of fire. The Philippines is in the ring of fire. Mayon has erupted. It has spewed out the heat under the earth. The West Valley Fault is due to move. Disaster is in the offing, Get ready.

@LeaPea2417 Tornadoes and hurricanes are frightening. I have seen video clips by National Geographic and the packed winds were deadly, destroyed everything in the path. Are Georgia homes equipped with bunkers? Or the state simply advise the constituents to evacuate pending the disaster that could wreak havoc? Just the same, be prepared for any eventuality. This age has shown us the worst of disasters.

@eileenleyva People here don't have the bunkers like they do in the Western States like Texas.

@eileenleyva Georgia is pretty safe. It is not on a fault line but we do get tornadoes and hurricanes.

There is nothing wrong with being prepared! Especially if you are also looking out for others too. I still pray it won't be needed and it can be used in a party to use it before it expires celebration!

Yes, my classmates and I have been praying the Oratio Imperata. for the longest time., So is the Church, after Communion. Yet, data shows the West Valley Fault will move. The Science tells us to prepare. Our Creator will not look kindly on us if we do nothing about survival, I think.

The way I stock my freezers, refrigerators, and cupboards with food, most people tend to think I am expecting some sort of disaster to strike. But lo and behold, I do it because I buy everything on sale and stock up so I never have to pay full price for anything.

No offense, Jim Bauer, but that is very American, I think. My relatives who had migrated to America, also tell of tales about SALE, like the Black Friday thing. In reality, the SALE thing is just a gimmick, to lure people to come buy the stuff. It is a marketing strategy, as emphasized in Business Economics lectures.
