Our wardrobe still isn't finished

Well, it didn’t happen. We didn’t get our wardrobes finished and worse, we broke one of the sections of the mirrored doors. It’s not the end of the world although it will be a bit inconvenient to replace. In the morning we put in all the interior bits and pieces. Some of it was quite time-consuming. We had to build each drawer so everything took time. You can see some glass-fronted drawers, a trouser rack, baskets and shoe storage. Nearer the camera is the one sliding mirror door that we managed to get done. Now we’ve done one, the rest will be relatively easy and I’m sure we won’t be so unlucky as to break any more. The tartan on the floor comes from picnic rugs which we’ve put down to lessen the chance of scratches etc. I’m off to watch ‘Would I Lie to You’ shortly. It’s an English show and one of the few TV shows that I really enjoy watching. Once that’s finished I’ll be back for a while but I think we’ll be in bed early again tonight.

I've assembled several IKEA shelves and small cupboards for the bathroom but not such a complicated piece of furniture. I'd have paid a bit more and let the IKEA men assemble it. It's their job and they do it in no time.

@JudyEv " . . . it's all part of the process". Or rather ". . . part of the fun"?

@MALUSE Yes, part of the fun is probably closer to the truth.

We are 2 1/2 hours from an Ikea store so would have been charged mileage as well as the normal fee. Besides, we like doing this sort of stuff. It wouldn't have been nearly as satisfying to have had it done for us. So we might have broken a piece but it's all part of the process.

We paid about $2000+ for a similar unit (materials and installation included, they came doing the whole thing within about an hour or so!). The unit came with sliding mirror doors. Yours looks very good.

Thanks. It's shame we had a breakage but that's okay. We've enjoyed doing it ourselves.

@YrNemo If you're happy with it that is all that matters.

@JudyEv Our current house has built in robes and built in wardrobes almost everywhere, so we have mirrors surrounding us. (Against Fengshui someone pointed out to me, but who care about Fengshui if we are happy with the extra brightness & space those mirrors provide?)

I often think we should revamp our closet. But, the lack of space keeps me from moving forward. We only have 2 closets in our tiny home. Each holds various items that we can't store out in the shed. Love the wardrobe. You must be so pleased with it.

Thanks, yes, I love it. We are spoilt for storage room here. When we built the house we built cupboards the length of a 9 yard passage. It holds all my linen and much more besides.

@JudyEv hopefully the next place we have will have more storage space. I am really tired of tiny living.

@ElusiveButterfly To me, it adds stress if I can't find room for things. I think maybe I'm a bit OCD after all.

You are the master of your destiny and are free to finish what you have started whenever it pleases you although it would mean myLotters waiting patiently to see the finished product

I am thinking people will be fed up with hearing about the wardrobe but perhaps I'll post something different tomorrow so the robe will look much the same as it does today.

@judyev It seems to be quite an elaborate installation that can hold rather a lot of stuff.

@xFiacre I've heard of people building in bookshelves and going to a bookstore and asking for a metre of books.

It's a shame. It was just one panel so hopefully we can buy a replacement panel rather than four panels with make up a full door.

It is surprising how long each little portion takes. Some parts are very tricky and the directions can sometimes be difficult to decipher.

Assembling drawers is time consuming, the interiors take a lot more time that the frame.

@JudyEv This is true, the first to assemble takes forever, until you understand how it works.

We found that to be the case too. And the first of any of the components took three times as long as the subsequent ones. Once you'd assembled one drawer the rest took no time at all.

We did indeed and we'll easily finish it tomorrow. We'll need to order a new piece of mirror before we're able to finish the last door.

I pulled out drawers, etc so you see more. It's in a confined space and hard to take a photo of all of it. There are five units all up.

The first drawer seemed to take a long time then the rest were a breeze. Same with all the bits and pieces. Once you'd done one the rest were relatively easy. We've brought over some trestles from the shed which will make assembling the other two doors much easier.
