Jealousy, the green eyed monster

When I was young jealousy was an emotion I struggled with especially when it came to romance. It can be very destructive and I'm ashamed to say some of my relationships ended because of it. These days I am much more laid back. I feel secure in my relationships with people and no longer see others as a threat. Has jealousy ever been a problem in your life or have you always felt secure in your relationships? Image from Pixabay

Jealousy is a very destructive emotion. I still battle against it but not in the area of romance.

It's funny how we have preconceived ideas about people. I just can't imagine you suffering from jealousy!

@JudyEv I think it's natural to want something others have on occasions.

@sprite1950 Sometimes people have something I'd dearly love to have and I have to watch the green-eyed monster and keep him under control. Mostly a slim figure!!!

I have never been jealous in the sense not to trust my boyfriend or, now, my husband. I would say I am "possessive", I do not like the idea "to share" the love of my husband with another woman.

@LadyDuck My partner used to look at other women a lot when I first knew him. He's not so bad now but it used to upset me.

No I wouldn't like to share but then if a person loves you he wouldn't want to share either.

@sprite1950 This is my opinion, you are jealous only for the fear to lose something that must be only yours.

I am never jealous of anyone but I get frustrated when they get what they do not deserve.

Jealousy might destroy the relationships. I've been there proven and tested.

You're so right. I have a friend who says she has destroyed every relationship she ever had through her jealousy.

@sprite1950 It's not healthy in the relationship when you always feel jealous about different things especially on a person.

Back in the day I was always Jealous of the other gals and thinking they were out to steal the man I am with. Anymore I am pretty selective in who I want to be around and get to know.

Jealousy is a monster as you said, a very destructive monster. I hate it when I feel it. It has been a problem for me too when I was younger but now I have overcome it.

I think it's because we are too young to deal with our emotion, when we grow up, we have already experienced a lot so we can handle our emotions better.

I love too deeply that in the end, I become very indifferent in general to everything in life .

There have been times I have felt a bit of jealousy. Most of the time it was unfounded, and yes...can certainly create problems. If you don't have trust, really you have nothing.

I don't think I have ever been the jealous type. I am pretty laid back and figure if the person wants to be with me then they will and if not then they can go be with the other person.

I'm exactly like that now but I wasn't at one time and used imagine that whoever I was with at the time was up to all sorts. It's a horrible feeling.

@sprite1950 I can imagine it would be horrible. Always wondering what they were doing when they aren't with you. My ex used to make comments about other girls and I figured he was just trying to get a reaction out of me. I never acted jealous, I would just tell him to go on and be with her then. Come to find out he was cheating on me just not with the people he was making the comments about. Good riddance to bad rubbish as they say.

Jealousy is a normal feeling to all. When it comes to relationship we must know how to control our emotions. I do believe that when we are jealous then we care. Surely we won't bother if we don't love or care for the person. It's just that we must know how to handle it. I guess we all traveled on that path somewhere in our lives and it becomes a problem. And as we grow older we are learning how to deal with it.

That's a great answer and very true. I think most people feel it at some point in their lives but most of us learn to control it.
