Do you prefer a soak in a hot bath or going for a walk or both? Well according to studies, whatever your choice, you get the same benefits. Relaxing in a hot bath for 30 minutes 40 F is just a beneficial for your body as taking a 30 minute walk. Researchers found that you burn the same calories about (130 ) walking or sitting in the tub or sauna doing nothing. Researcher found many benefits to passive heat (hot bath or sauna) Peak blood sugar dropped by 10 percent when a hot bath was taken in place of a bike ride. Great news for diabetics. Passive heating (hot bath, sauna) reduced inflammation and could prevent cardiovascular disease It reduces blood pressure which I actually tested and it worked like magic. Of course as in any study everyone may not have the same results depending on a number of factors and medical condition. So check with your doctor before trying. And sitting in the sauna or hot tub should not be a replacement for regular exercise. I happen to enjoy both what about you?

I would rather do both. I like walking when I get motivated and I only take baths when I feel like I did enough work to deserve one.

I would do both, the walk first and the bath later. I also wished I had a sauna box.

Me too. I would love to have one of those. I walked through a newly built neighbourhood close by and one of the homes had a nice sauna right in their front yard.

I like both. The effect of hot bath can be also dangerous for diabetics, if they don't know this fact.

I think it all depends. The study did find that diabetics benefited and that it lowered their sugar by 10 percent 24 hours after the hot bath. But I would caution anyone who has a medical condition and anyone who has not had hot baths to check with their doctor before doing it.

And just when I thought I'd have two hot baths a day instead of walking for an hour, you had to go and say 'should not be a replacement for regular exercise'. I was getting really excited there for a while!

I always thought hot baths caused your blood pressure to rise but found out it has the opposite effect

I could soak in the tub and read a book - or even daydream.

I am always afraid of falling asleep in the tub as it is very easy to do.

Of course after 30 minutes in the tub you will be looking pretty much like a prune. I guess a small sacrifice to burn off a few calories, lol.

I don't look like a prune but it takes me a good hour to cool down. Well no pain no gain or loss?

I enjoy both but I would take the long walk first so I let my feet soak in a hot bath later.

I enjoy hot baths mostly during the cold months or chilly nights - especially if the tub is outdoors or on a porch.

@Freelanzer We do not have a bath so that is not hard to decide which to do. Actually I could take a nice walk and then come home and take a shower so solved both of them.

A walk in the park is much better. We should always make our body work and active. Once our body is enough active we can take a normal shower then.
