Why do Adults do this?

The other day I was talking to my dad on the phone. It was a conversation about what I needed to do when I went over to go dog sit. Well, in that conversation, I was watching Cryaotic. He is a content creator who streams on Twitch and does Youtube videos and such. I was watching Cry's stream and my dad was like, "Is that a guy voice I am hearing?" And I go, "Yeah that is Cry." Thinking I knew he know who Cry was because I talk about him a lot but I guess I never have with him before. And so he goes, "Who is that?" And I tell him that Cry is a streamer, he plays video games for a living and just basic things about him. My father says, "So, is he like your boyfriend?" And I almost strangled myself with my phone charger, that is so embarassing! Why do people do this? Whenever someone talks about another person they always assume that like they are a couple or whatever. Like if a boy got a text from a girl and the mom is like "oooh does little Jimmy have a girlfriend?" No Mom! Why can't Jimmy just text a cool girl who is totally platonic! Like yes, I talk about Cry doesn't mean I know the guy. I am just a fan of his. Yes I have a crush on him, everyone know this, but we all have our celebrity crushes! So I told him No, he is just a popular dude on the internet and he doesn't even know my existance. and my father was just like, "alrighty then!" Like he does when he doesn't really understand something. So silly. Just so silly.

"So, is he like your boyfriend?" - "I wish!" Well, that often works as an excuse, I call my boyfriend and hear a female voice... "oh it's the TV". I'm coming to destroy that TV, wait for me.

@DesirousDreamer I hope you will find the right one, my friend. If I am not mistaken, you had broken up with your last relationship.

Haha, fathers! Just remember that someday we'll be the old, out of touch adults...well, heck, I'm already on my way there.
