Oh My! I Ate Not Even Half of Its Worth!

My niece treated her sister after her graduation last April 6, on a buffet at Oriental Hotel-Legazpi, situated on top of a mountain. There were 11 of us, not including the two small kids. She paid 899 pesos ($17.98) for each adult and my 8-year-old niece for 399 pesos( $7.98). The two very small grandchildren were for free. There were lots of different kinds of foods, desserts, and juices. I chose only a few of the appetizers and a little of fried rice. Then, I went back to see what more will I like. I didn’t touch the meat dishes. I got instead two slices of pizza of different kinds. I got the Waldorf Salad and ate a lot of it. Then, after a while I made halo-halo. I also got small slices of cakes. I had a choco marble shake and tried a little of each juice. I had the mushroom soup. I estimated what I ate as not even half the buffet amount paid for me. But my brother-in-law keeps coming back to the buffet place. He even had a shabu-shabu. He said he has to have a taste of everything to make worthy the buffet amount. Well, I know that part of the amount for buffet was the ambiance of the restaurant. What about you? Can you eat so much when you go to a buffet restaurant? What are the dishes you will eat most?

The way I see it, it is a Chinese dish wherein you can choose from the array of ingredients for that then you can choose to cook it yourself or have the chef cook it for you. Just like those noodles but I saw that there are veggies. I regretted not having tried it. I even told my brother-in-law, I don't want to cook for myself. I go to the restaurant to eat without cooking that's why.

We could never have this kind of buffet for such a low price, food is expensive in our country. It is not common to have restaurants that offer a buffet, usually only for breakfast.

So, this price is low price compared to buffets there? So, it means indeed that it is very expensive to have buffets there. Buffets here abound though, there are much lower priced buffets and they make delicious foods.

@LadyDuck Wow, that is already expensive here. Usually, ordinary buffets here only costs 200-250 pesos of $3. Their buffets consists already of 6-8 dishes, two types of unlimited iced teas and an array of sliced 2 or 3 kind of fruits and halo-halo stuffings.

I fast before indulging in an " eat all you can" buffet style meal. I'm a voracious eater if I want to and from time to time forget staying healthy, we use to often go to these kinds of places in Alabang town center.

@louievill Oh, my! You're really smart to make the buffet so worthy of your money. Actually, I only get so little rice. But if there is fried rice, which is my favorite that can really fill me up already.

Well, men can indeed eat a lot compared to ladies. That's no wonder. It is not always we indulge in such kind of food trip, so when we are in one, we take the opportunity to eat everything we can.

@SIMPLYD when Im full but still " palaban" ( in the fight) I would go to the wash room and wash my face so I will get an appetite again or go out, have my arm stamped and tell them that I will come back cause time is not yet up and go to the children's play ground below to swing and see-saw so I would get hungry again The trick is eat the expensive foods first like " lechon de leche" and sea foods to get your money's worth, eat little rice cause that is cheap and it would make you full, also deserts would make you full, I only eat desserts when I think it's time to end the madness like ice cream, todas ( the end) of my gluttony when I ate the halo-halo

It sounds a great celebration. If I am anticipating this kind of occasion, I eat less in the house. So that I can eat a lot in a buffet-style party.

It was for dinner at about 7:00 so, I just ate a very light snack at 3:00 in the office. But the appetizers are delicious and I also ate fried rice, since it's my favorite, so much so that I was half full already and wasn't much interested in the meat dishes anymore, which are the main entrees.

Buffet restaurants are great fun and I try to get my money's worth! I usually take a tiny piece of the things I like but still end up with a plateful of food.

Yes, even if we take a little of everything, the plate will not be enough to accommodate them all. So, what I do is I keep going back and around to see what I still like to taste.

i usually take a spoonful of the different dishes and maybe 3 tablespoonfuls of rice. i take the quantity i know i can consume. i do not leave anything uneaten in my plate. i always think about what my late parents told me:"there are many who do not eat, you are privileged to have something to eat!"

The buffet that for me is so very nice was that at Mandarin Hotel about 20 years ago. There are really a lot of international dishes, that I was able to eat grilled lamb for the first time. It's a treat for my birthday of our rich family friend.

Yes, but it is also to choose everything or get a taste of a little of everything, because anyway you paid for it. My brother-in-law after eating went out with his family for picture taking and watching the dance of fire outside and when they came back, he again goes back to the buffet tables. Me and my sister, we remained in our seat and chatted , then once in a while go back for desserts and fruits.

Yeah, actually, he has eaten for my sister and the two girls. He is actually a former assistant in a tanker. He resigned when their snack house by the side garden of the lawn of my parents' house, has flourished already. So, he wants to see if the foods are really that delicious. It's the reason why he is a bit fat already.

I always felt sick after eating in a Buffet restaurants. I ate much because of the seafood. Too much work for my stomach or was it because of the MSG in the food? I wonder.

That is true. We shouldn't drink water while eating, as it is advised by health experts also. Usually, I don't eat rice when on buffets, only viands. However, the sight of the fried rice is irresistible since it is my favorite.

I think that's a very reasonable price for a buffet. We only go to breakfast buffets when traveling. The most costly was $75 per person at our hotel in Hong Kong, and that was years ago. I usually have an omelette and am stuffed, but my husband grazes through everything! lol

I love breakfast buffets. We had that too in the hotel we were billeted last December when we went to Manila for our Corporate Christmas party. My husband too, can eat much. Oh, men have bigger stomachs to fill compared to women that's why. Wow, $75 for a buffet is already so expensive here.

@DianneN Hubby and I are also fond of eating like pigs. We once ordered a lot and told ourselves that we overly ordered when the foods arrived. However, we laughed out loud when we have finished them all and no left-over at all. Well, we are both foodies. And when I ate a lot for a week or two, my stomach begins protruding. That would make me exercise every day.

No, you cannot take out any of a buffet. That's not allowed. You have to eat there. Actually, you can stay there and eat whenever you still can for as long as the band is playing. We stayed there for about 3 hours. My sister and her family roamed around the hotel and even went up the third floor to have pictures taken by the poolside. Then, they came back to eat again. They are identifiable anyway because we just stayed and listened to the band and would go to the buffet table to get this and that.
