Say that there are offers of 3 packets of biscuit in the price of 1.5 and the expiry date is in the next 8 days? I had went shopping yesterday when I saw this deal. I was happy and nearly wanted to get it when I saw the expiry to be next week. What will you do? Will you take up or pass on the deal?

I will only buy close-to-expired foods only if I will use the food as soon as I bring it home.

@id_peace That may be too many biscuits to eat in one day, I would think.

I do buy food that is close to the sell by dates on food. Especially if it is marked down. I will buy meats that are marked down since I will either cook them the same or next day or I will freeze it. I have never had a problem with the food that is close to the date on the package.

@id_peace Anytime the meat is a couple days away from the sell by date, they will mark it down. If it is something that I will use then I will buy it.

I do it all the time. You can get some massive discounts and so long as you cook it right away...it is good and does not harm you.

Certain foodstuff s I would never buy close to the expiry date. I also check bread labels very carefully - I cannot abide stale tasting bread.

I buy many things that are reduced in price cause of the expiry date. My freezer holds a lot of these bargains.

@id_peace when food is frozen it can be consumed at a date long past the expiry date.

They say that expiry food contains one month allowance before the expiration date so it's still safe to eat even if it's near the expiry date.

It depends on what it is, but I buy foods close to expiring all the time. Some food can be frozen, some can be used right away, but most of them keep far beyond the stated date. There is a store near here that sells only expired or almost expired food for really good prices. My daughter and I try to go at least once a month.

@id_peace I don't always, but it depends on the food. Some things last far beyond the stated date.

If it's so close I won't buy, but usually the food close to expiry date will be a great deal considering the price

I would only do so if it is just a packet as I don’t want to waste food

It depends on the item! Will I use it all before expiration date? Its not a savings/deal if its in the trash....

I never did that before. buy close-to-expired food in order to avoid intoxication.
