To follow or not.

How much time do you need to make a decision whether to follow someone or not? There is a famous quote: - "marry in haste , repent at leisure" - do you follow someone after one or two posts - then later down the road you realize that you really shouldn't have? Have you ever unfollowed someone.? I decide to follow a member after reading at least two or three dozen of his or her discussions - that way I have never had reason so far to unfollow anyone. However, it can happen that a person may change overnight. So how much time do you need? Do you see any benefits in following or being followed.?

I rarely follow anyone, I used to follow everyone but it seems to me to be not really the way the site works. I do go and read and write when I have the time but most of the time I spend on my own posts responding to all who leave a comment - I visit their pages...

That's the way I do it too. I also respond on any interesting post I see in the recent discussions.

I donĀ“t follow many people now. I have lots of people that are not here any longer from the first mylot. I get to know people that relate to me by answering my posts with interesting answers. When I see a post written by them, I read it.

Every once in a while, I purge the list of followers. When I see someone who never comments on anything, I delete them from the list. If they become active again, I can always follow back. It is important to spend time with people who will interact and boost your ratings.

Many of the followers on my list are not active anymore - I was thinking of deleting the names.

@akalinus I think I will do some of that. I have followers who followed the first day - then left a few days later.

I follow many myLotters, those with whom I like to interact. I do not follow everyone who follows me. Some follow you and never even come to read your discussions.

@Kandae11 I wonder why people follow us and they never dare to interact. May be they think that following people is a way to earn.

That's what I have found - I should have over 200 responses on every post if half of my followers read and responded to my discussions.

As people whom I follow, are those who always help me to learn a lot. I just love to see the updates from them!.

I take minimum one month to follow ..but I have to say I don't follow nowadays..I used to do that when im new here.. The benefits of following is to not miss any post from the person we like here..and also another one is to get only pm of members we like that we follow..just by managing settings

I am also like you I take much of time before following any one! If I feel that that the member is sensible, sensitive and having humanity then only I think of following him! Thanks dear @Kandae11

If someone follows me, I look to see if they are a regular contributor. I don't follow people who have been here a year and have one discussion and three followers. I can always unfollow and/or block someone who never interacts with me and/or whose discussions make no sense.

@Kandae11 I would. It does not profit you to have a lot of followers who don't do anything on here anymore. You can refollow in the future if things change.

@Kandae11 I don't believe that you can delete those that follow you only those that you choose to follow.

I definitely don't follow back people who never visited my post. I sometimes delete followers if I notice they had been away from Mylot for about a year of more.

@Kandae11 You can delete those you chose to follow, but you can't delete anyone that follows you. You can just decide to not follow them. If you did reciprocate and follow them, then you can change it back and unfollow them, but they will still be on our lists of those that are following us. Even if/when they are no longer active or not as much, they will still be on our lists of those that follow us.

No, I don't follow right away. I take my time, get to know the person through their posts, before I make that decision. The only time I followed without hesitation is when I came here to myLot and met many of the friends I knew from the other site that went down. I have unfollowed several, but that only happened when I hadn't seen them in ages and went through my following list to see when they had posted last. If it was a year or close to it, I unfollowed them. Also if I knew they had passed as a couple members have.

I don't know seriously. I often follow people here if I have known them for a long time and want to make sure I won't forget their names too fast. (My memory is not good any more.) The funny thing with mylot is, I could follow people, but mylot would un-follow people from my list every now and then. If I have to officially follow a certain person too many times, then I won't bother to do that anymore (because I already remember their names).

Some who follow me I would follow back immediately, but if the member is new - then I wait for some time before deciding if I should.

I no longer follow many new people. I have to have a good reason for doing so. I've reduced my list of whom I follow drastically. That doesn't mean I don't read people's posts. I do what I can when I can.
