There's one thing that you can say about me: I'm predictable. Here's the next song on my list of favorites that have long titles -- at least seven words -- coinciding with my list of favorites with one-word titles with four letters or fewer. I'm sure there's no surprise whatsoever that this song is showing up. #7: (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding - Brinsley Schwarz Of course, most people know this song much better by that famous cover in 1979 by Elvis Costello. That's where I first heard it, of course (I'm not going to pretend to be so hip that I knew who Nick Lowe was in 1974! Heck, I was still listening to nothing but country music then!). I'm using the Brinsley Schwarz version over Costello's for two reasons. One, it's the original; and two, most people who love the Costello song have probably never heard it. I've seen Nick Lowe live twice, 33 years apart, and he did this song both times. It's a classic song that was important in 1974 when he recorded it with his band; it was important in 1979 when Costello covered it; and it's important today. What's so funny 'bout it? Being cruel to be kind.

This is the more familiar version. I read it was also used in the film The Bodyguard, so if you have the soundtrack you may have heard it there.

@RasmaSandra - I had the privilege of seeing Elvis Costello do this live at a festival Belgium. It was awesome!

Back when I was living in Denver with my Karaoke-loving ex-girlfriend, we would go to Karaoke night at this sports bar every once in awhile. Every single time, this girl in a wheelchair would get up there and absolutely nail this song. Then she would leave.
