Gotcha (Those Headhunters)!

They were lying there, looking at the sky, feeling sorry for themselves. All of them bandits, six in total, were caught redhanded and they were all fatso, just as I had guessed. They, happened to be the nasty marigolds' and young bean shoots' head collectors. They had headhunted my precious plants for a while now, to my anger! I know they have had their eyes on some of my young beans and the latest treasure of mine, a young Four O'clock Flower (Marvel-of-Peru) plant. What could I do but to go get more Snail pellets from the store? (The main thing is, this time, these snail pellets really worked!) That made me think of a new big padlock I just bought, for only $2 from a Chinese store. The keys which come with it, look too flimsy that I don't know if the padlock would work. Perhaps that padlock is sold to be used as a love lock? (Have to go searching for a bridge if I want to use it for that purpose.) Have you ever found out too late that your latest purchase was a real waste of money? (I did that plenty of times in the past .)

A padlock can be symbolical but it still represents a padlock and its presence will stop most of people. In an isolated place, not a padlock will resist to somebody decided to break it, it is just a matter of time and tools. I often buy gadgets that I am tempted to throw away after I tested them. I bought two months ago a VR headset but it was incompatible with the buttons of my phone and was resetting it. I offered it as a birthday gift to somebody having another phone model.

@YrNemo The problem is that 2G is too slow for surfing the web. I was in the countryside on Monday, and I could hardly check myLot with the connection I had. The mobile phone providers have promised to cover 90% of the French population with 4G before 2020, but there are some villages that will never be covered and where 2G phones can still be used. When I got better locks, they managed to enter from a window of the second floor. They rarely try to open a padlock with a key, they force them or cut them with big cutting pliers. It is difficult to tell without trying if a padlock can resist long. In a city environment, I read that they give up in less than 2 mn. In an isolated place, they can take their time and use a hacksaw.

I have plenty of things around the house here, buying for the kids, knowing very well that they wanted them only when the items were still inside the store. Yet they still begged me to get those items (shoes, clothes, etc). AND I was that stupid to pay for them, just to please the kids! Your VR made me think of things we bought but no longer use due to technology progressing so fast in the last 20 yrs. We have DVD and/or VCR players here, (about 8 of them) and some of them we only used once or twice. Oh dear, cell phones too, we can't use the 2G one any more! (perhaps we could still use them for games and as ebook reader. Know anything about this? Perhaps you could make a post about this?) You are right, that padlock might be hopeless to deter determined burglars, but at least it looks like a genuine padlock . (Would be bad if I locked the side gate and could not open it ever again . The keys are real pathetic, look exactly like the ones for children's money boxes!)

@topffer (re: burglars got into your place via the second-floor window because your locks were too good!) Here, if they targeted some places, they would just break any window to get in. We had our window broken that way!) I am hoping that by locking the side gate, opportunists will think twice before jumping over the 2m tall fence.

I hope they do not eat all of your plants. They are just hungry for something.

The next door neighbors have a giant veggie garden with fat leaves and chubby plants. They could stay on that side ?

I had a couple of items were not used before. I tend to be practical as much as possible. It is a money waster thing if we don't think in practicality.

just you wait ! When you have kids (and a darling wife), you will pay for things just because you want to please them. I went through that phase before, looking back, I am embarrassed of myself.

@YrNemo I bought a pretty expensive dress that I never dared to wear. I still have it and it's even out of fashion now.

Oh no, that sounds bad. My mistakes often involved my children, (for them). BUT I suddenly remembered buying some pairs of shoes for myself when I was in my 20s . I never could wear them, and now looking at them, I couldn't help laughing. (I still keep them here! They are soooo out of fashion!)

@LadyDuck I have a few expensive tops here which I only wore once. I keep them regardless since they remind me of my silliness (and youth ). Would love to see that dress of yours. (I made many beautiful dresses which I had worn with pride prior to my marriage. Alas, my waistline and chest have both exploded! It is sad looking at those beautiful dresses I had made!)

One of my nieces burst into tears a few weeks ago. We had tried to talk her out of buying a certain doll but she was persistent. When the little girl got some reward money for passing another piano level, the kid went straight for that doll. She opened it at home and found out too late that it couldn't move or skate or do this and that as she had expected.

I've never thought of marigolds as nasty, but beautiful flowers. I'm glad the snail pellets worked. Yes, I'm sure I wasted my money on things that were flimsy and didn't work the way I expected.

@just4him (I am thinking of tasting some marigolds to understand why the snails always go for them .)

I like marigolds, but the snails which ate my marigolds were nasty enough to eat my special plants. (I planted lots but only a few marigolds pop up.)

I just found out yesterday, that one of the books I bought from a second-hand store, was so worthless. I am a bit angry with myself (for getting it). The plot was so shallow, the writing style was so sleazy! How could they let that book being published is above me!
