Here in Texas and 16 other states, we have what is known as the Red Fire Ant. This ant originated from South America and was brought to the US via ships into Mobile, Alabama in the 1930's. When this little booger bites, it only takes a split second for a pimple-like welt filled with pus to appear and trust me, if you've stepped into a Fire Ant mound, you will look like you've come down with a case of the Measles. Hopefully the new ant species called Colobopsis explodens from Southeast Asia does NOT make it's way into the US. It will attack anything that threatens it's colony by attaching itself and exploding a toxic, yellow liquid. I have enough of the OTHER guys on my property, I sure don't need these guys too. http:

We have fire ants here in Canada too. I saw their mounds everywhere when I was growing up in the country. They are a nuisance.

In Canada??? Holy crap @Starmaiden ; who would have thought they would have come clear up there!! I once saw a picture of an excavation site and the ant mount literally went down below ground 5 stories. It looked liked a below ground apartment complex.

Oh good grief, what a stupid mess we're in. Back in the 1800s some idiots who wanted to live close to the Rio Grande on the southwest side of our mountains introduced salt cedar to the area we once had that was marshy and home to many water fowl. People are so blasted stupid sometimes.

They're actually creating predators for our species @nanette64 the trouble with that is these predators aren't big enough to see on time. Sometimes being smart isn't a really good idea, just look at what all those smarty pants have done .... you mentioned the stupidity of cross breeding which they did to create the Africanized bees.

@rebelann Oh exactly on the bees. Every time they cross breed something it turns out to be a detriment.
