As was the case with game five, the Nashville Predators came out electrified in game six in Denver, shooting early and often at Colorado Avalanche goalie Andrew Hammond. This time, the Pred's put two past the Av's third string netminder in the hard-hitting period and took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. It would be all they needed as Predators goalie Pekka Rinne was perfect in shutting out the Avalanche 5-0, to close out the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs series, 4-2. The barrage didn't stop all game long, with Nashville out shooting Colorado 37-22, and controlling the game throughout. Nashville goals scored by: Matthias Ekholm (assists by Sissons, Bonino,) Austin Watson (Sissons, Bonino,) Filip Forsberg (unassisted,) Nick Bonino (Jarnkrok, Ellis,) Viktor Arvidsson (Subban.) Am I disappointed? Sure, a game seven would have been nice, but I am very pleased with how this season panned out. Put it this way. The Colorado Avalanche were the worst team in the league last year. The fact that they even made the playoffs this season was more than I expected. And as a young team with very little collective playoff experience, the fact that they took the best team in the NHL deep into the series hopefully is a good sign of things to come. Nashville will face the Winnipeg Jets in round two.
The Predators beat the Avalanche handily in Game 6, moving on to face the Jets in Round 2- but not before some quality handshakes.
