. I so love these fabrics from Samoa .. Very bright colours and full of life . I can't wait to finish working on these dresses .. Glad that the client loved the designs I came up with .... Some asked what I do offline .. This is what I do.. I'm a dressmaker, designer and tailor.. I do mostly weddings and formals and have been in this business ( self-employed ) for nearly 30 years now here in Australia. But I no longer accept all the works like I used to.. I accepted only one wedding this year and turned down three brides.. My baby sitting is my priority.. three days a week plus taking care of father in-law four days every two weeks occupy most of my days in a month.. If my son, knows how much more I could have earned if I wasn't babysitting, he would be shocked .. lol .. But life is not all about making money, is it?.. Specially when you reach my age, it's all about quality and not quantity.. I love my work..I feel very fortunate to have my job.. It helped me prepared for the quality of life I dreamt of for my senior years that I am enjoying now.. I don't have to work anymore but it is part of me that I can't just turn my back away from.. at least for another 3 to 5 years.. When I retire from this work completely, I will spend more time online. Perhaps become a full time Farmer, Designing/Tailoring/Dressmaking Teacher, Writer, Mylotter and CryptoCurrency Investor .. ahahaha!! And hopefully I get to travel more .. Looks like I will be a lot busier in my retirement .... What do you most look forward to in your retirement?.. Bess ..

A year after I took early retirement, I helped build houses for the poor for a year then got busy in our parish and in meetings of our cooperative. Will be busier in the following months with the many projects being lined up. Do my early morning walks at the ovals about 4 times a week and take photos (mostly of the sunrise) when I'm in the mood. Spend some time taking care and maintaining our lawn and garden too.

Bess! I did not know you are a dressmaker. hehehe You draw beautifully. You are talented. I am happy for you, my good friend. You have a lot on your sleeves. I am glad to know you. I am far from retirement but I would definitely want to be active, may be in sports or teaching perhaps or taking care of grandchildren too.

It depend on your definition of retirement. I will like to retire cos I achieved financial freedom not to go on corporate jobs anymore. I will like to focus on my trading, investment and also to help people to achieve their dreams as well as financial freedoms. (Both never mutually inclusive or exclusive)

When I met my husband, he was working for a big company as one of the managers .. that job took over his life .. the money was good but the quality of life was non existent.. in the end it was not worth it ... But we have invested on shares and real estate , so we are doing okay ..

I'm not too old but sometimes I don't want to pressure myself to work online. Lately I've gone into the interest of gardening.

Wow! Nice to know that you are a designer dress maker and you do it as your passion! Hats off to you! Yes money is not everything in life! There is something called satisfaction of achievement which gives much more happiness than any money can give! I am very happy that you are attending baby sitting and your father in Law too which is a big work of humanity. People like you can't sit idle at any age of their life as they are workaholics ane they derive pleasure from working for themselves in the sense for their own satisfaction rather than pleasing others! I am impressed! Thanks a lot @epiffanie! God bless!

@epiffanie , I fully agree with your views and appreciate your generosity to pass on the knowledge you gained by working for 40 years to next generation...the experience should be shared and taught to the interested persons so that it should go on for generations in our absence! Impressed! God bless!

Thanks you so much for your kind words @AKRao24 .. Indeed, once a person is workaholic , they don't think of retirement .. My husband and I are well matched .. we are not like many we know who are in their 60s and 70s who don't like to work anymore .. We feel that if we stop , life will become meaningless .. So if I can no longer work physically, I can continue sharing with others the secret of the trades for free .. who ever want to learn ..As it will be a shame to take with me to the grave the knowledge I gained for 40 something years .. .

Yeah, life is not all about making money. I totally agree with you. Money can ever buy us happiness. After my retirement, I will look after my grandson or granddaughter for my daughter, I will travel if I have time. Have a nice day, dear friends.

I seem to remember that you said you were giving up being a dressmaker quite a while ago, then changed your mind. The best thing about retirement for me is the freedom to do as I please, where I please and when I please

You are right; life is not just making money all the time; if you already have enough (or more than enough) for retirement, just enjoy and do things you love to do.

I agree with you. Life is not all about money for me too that is why I only have a mini job to attend to. The rest of my days are enjoying my quality life with writing. You have a wonderful job as a dressmaker, designer and all but taking care of a grandchild is worth doing. I envy you for that. I would give up traveling just to babysit a grandchild but I do not have one. Hopefully I still will.

Nice to have a job that you enjoy doing. And better yet, because it is your own you can pretty much do what you want so long as the client is happy with it. As for my own retirement just having more time to do what I want would be nice. I have always thought it would be fun for the first couple of years to go RVing.
