I am so annoyed!

Around a month ago my granddaughter took part in a sponsored swim at her school. It was to raise money for the leavers' trip as she is in her last year at primary school. They are going to a popular theme park after their exams in May. She raised £25 ($35) which I sent off immediately and trusted that the money arrived safely. My granddaughter assured me that she had given it in and as she is a very honest girl I believe her. Yesterday the school told her she must hand in the money or she would not be going! I rang them and told them it had been given in and her teacher was supposed to ring me back. So far no word but I have since learned that another child is experiencing the same thing. You would think that a school would be more careful with our money so I'm really annoyed. I don't want to pay again but she would be devastated if she couldn't go. What would you do?

I agree with @LadyDuck.The teacher should give a receipt.Anyway it is always better to hand over the money ourselves.I hope the teacher calls you back to clear the situation.

I used to hand in money myself but they said they liked to encourage the children to do these kind of things for themselves. She isn't the only one this is happening to. A child whose parent is a teaching assistant at the school is saying the same thing.

It is not correct to take money from someone without giving a recipe.

@sprite1950 I fear there is a teacher who is not honest, or she forgets things.

I think that the school should give a recipe to the children when they give them money. I would ask to the Director if it is normal the teacher did not signed a recipe. Make it clear that you suspect there is something wrong.

My granddaughter told me that there is another girl experiencing the same thing and her mother is a teaching assistant at the school so that makes me feel a bit better as she is very trustworthy. They must have lost this money.

@LadyDuck That makes it look as though there might be a mistake on their part so I'm glad we aren't the only ones.

@sprite1950 I am glad that the other mom is a teaching assistant. I hope she can find the source of the problem.

I will make a police report and lodge a complain to the ministry of education. £25 pounds may not be a lot, it is the integrity and the reputation of my kins at stake. Something that I am not willing to let it slide

The money has been found now. Apparently it had been handed in to the wrong teacher so that's all I am worried about. I didn't want them to think I was dishonest and hadn't given the money in.

Yes my granddaughter handed it in to her teacher. I put the money in an envelope in her schoolbag and it was gone when she got home from school that day. I asked her if she had handed it in and she said she had. Now the money seems to have been mislaid along with another child's money. The parent of this other child is a teaching assistant at the school.

@aureliah It's ok, it's been sorted and they found it but I didn't get an apology. I had to ring up again and find out what was going on. I think it was very bad mannered of them.

@sprite1950 If your granddaughter handed it to the teacher then it is the teacher's mistake and not hers. Why should you pay again?

@sprite1950 There should be always a receipt because it's a proof of payment or at least makes a list with their signature or penmanship after they gave payments.

I would definitely hold the teacher accountable for that mistake. A receipt would have been a good idea or some other note that would have proved that your granddaughter had turned the money into the teacher. I am glad that I haven't had this happen. The school my children go to now have a way that money can be paid online into an account or something like that. I haven't used it yet but it seems like it would be easier than sending money into the teacher.

They do let us pay that way normally but not for this unfortunately. I was annoyed that they told my granddaughter she couldn't go unless the money was paid as it wouldn't have been her fault anyway, it would have been mine if it hadn't been paid. She was really upset,

@morgoodie I think this will make them think about giving out receipts in future. I'm quite glad she's leaving in the summer now. At secondary school money is paid into an account and they have finger print ID to get it out. I'm not sure about school trips etc.

@sprite1950 I don't blame her for being upset especially since she had turned the money into the teacher. I hope it gets resolved and she is able to go without having to pay again. They need a better system so there is a paper trail to say whether money has been collected from the students.

Let's hope it's just an oversight and you end up not having to 'do' anything. In a way, it's good someone else is saying the same as you.

I would have asked for a receipt upon handing it in. It's always good to get a receipt even if you feel you can trust the people you are paying. I'm sorry that this has happened. Maybe the treasurer or whoever was responsible for handling that money isn't so honest.

I think it's gone astray considering someone else is experiencing the same thing but they should hand out receipts. I'm annoyed that no one has contacted me about it so I don't know what's going on. I am going to ring them again today.

I would be upset too. The school and the children, or their guardians for that matter have equal responsibilities when it comes to these things. You have done your part, It would be their turn to do theirs. I hope it can be solved soon. Good luck!

Thanks. I have had money issues with the school before but luckily the payments were done online so I could prove that I paid and show the receipts.
