A limited choice in audiotapes

Hopefully on the 6th May we’ll be taking our car and caravan and heading from Western Australia eastwards to Melbourne then to Tasmania. First though we plan to spend a few days with friends in Ravensthorpe before crossing the Nullarbor Plain to visit our son in Melbourne, Victoria. There isn’t much to see across the Nullarbor and we plan on spending most of the day on the road for the time it takes us to get across. Today I bought a pack of eight audiotapes on Ebay. I had a $20 voucher so my $37.00 purchase will cost me just $17.00. We find listening to audiotapes a good way to pass the time when we’re travelling long distances. At the moment the only audiotape we haven’t listened to is Manning Clark’s History of Australia which I think might put us to sleep rather than keep us awake. Vince picked up the Manning Clark tapes at a thrift shop today. It was all they had available. Hopefully the others will arrive in time for us to have a choice of listening.

I am so happy for your travels, Judy. I have never tried audiotapes. But is it better than reading it?

We would be listening while we're driving along so probably best not to read while we're doing that!

@JudyEv Hahaha. Yeah, it will make you all the more sleepy. It happens to me.

Sounds like a good idea if you can get the right kind to keep you awake. Loud music helps as well for me.

@JudyEv I'm sure it is interesting and informative too.

@JamesHxstatic You have a more positive outlook than I have. I'm a bit worried about the 'interesting' part.

I'm not sure that 'The History of Australia' is the 'right kind' to keep us awake! It might be more likely to put us to sleep but it will be good to learn more about our history.

don't you listen through your phone, and use bluetooth in car or connect in car speaker.? Music now can be easily downloaded online and there are lots to choose.

We're not very technically minded in that area. I guess we could learn. The car's CD player is broken at the moment but we do have a tape player.

@JudyEv i do have a lot of audio tapes. They are collections of my hubby, But have no player now. With the rise of technology i am sure they won't be used. But i would love still to keep them. I might as well get a player if i can find one so i can play them once in a while. Keep safe in your travel. God bless.

You got me interested in getting our deck repaired. We have loads of tapes languishing. I remember those days when we both would collect as many as we thought would give us great music. We have a huge collection of Christmas music.

@JudyEv When we are discussing tapes that deck should certainly be a tape deck

I'm not sure how I got you interested in having your deck repaired. Oh, it just hit me - your tape-deck!! Not a verandah-type deck! I was really scratching my head there for a bit.

@allknowing I went straight to your comment before I realised what discussion you were commenting on - and although I know the term 'tape deck' I never use it. That's my excuse anyway.

I love audiobooks too. I have found the local library has a good selection of them.... I hope that you get your other choices soon

I'm hoping the eight tapes will arrive before we leave. There isn't a lot of time left. I should have done something about it earlier.

Audio tapes are vanished almost. We kept some in our almirah and I don't think any one will use it. It is surprise to listen you are still using it.

The CD player in our car isn't working but we have a tape-player so thought we'd buy some tapes. I know they are just about obsolete now but it would suit us at the moment.

It should be entertaining. So, are you going to be off mylot for a couple of months? It seems like you will be having an amazing trip!

I should be able to get on from time to time but it will depend on whether we can get reception. Sometimes we can use the bluetooth on the phone (I think that's the story). We suddenly seem to have a lot to do before we can leave.

It seems to be a long journey across australia.Listening to music is a really good way to relieve the dull time on the road.

Much of the Nullarbor is quite boring with very little to relieve the monotony. Listening to music or tapes helps pass the time.

That is a good idea, we just drive and I don't even listen to the radio.

We mostly just drive too but we'll be spending most of the day driving and although I could take a turn I'm not fussed about towing the caravan if Vince is able to manage without me having to drive.

I think you're right about those tapes. They would need to be very interesting to keep a person awake. I hope your tapes arrive before you leave.
