Doc checkup: All is (almost) well

Eugene, Oregon
April 26, 2018 1:08pm CST
I had an 8 AM early appointment for a check up following my siege with pneumonia, antibiotic and reaction to it. I could not see my regular doc, but saw a very knowledgeable young Nurse Practitioner who had done her homework on the antibiotic and the way it can target the Achilles tendon. It was one thing to have a gout flare-up, pretty easy to deal with, but when my heal swelled clear up to the ankle, I was a bit alarmed. She said I am doing the right things, taking Naprosen, elevating and icing the heel and that it should clear up soon. I thought she might prescribe some Prednisone, but we jointly decided it was not needed. She examined the tendon and made sure it was not torn. I am greatly relieved to know that there is no damage and it should heal naturally. If the fast-working antibiotic Levofloxacin is prescribed, make yourself aware of all the side-effects.

Yes they do, this one has that odd thing of tendon inflammation. I am happy to know things are going the right way.

This is an Antibiotic I cannot take. Matter of fact there are very few I can take anymore. Glad that everything turned out good otherwise

If I need an antibiotic I hope I am prescribed one without any serious side effects. Glad there is no damage to your heel.

I was relieved about that too. I suppose I needed the strong medicine, but the side effects were surprising.

@lovinangelsinstead21 It worked really fast fir me too on the infection. By the second daily dose after the IV bag full, I was recovering from the pneumonia, but then this fluke side effect on my Achilles tendon happened.

So Naprosen is for pneumonia or for heel swelling? As long as you are doing good, all is well.

@JamesHxstatic You all have way too many infections. Why? I hear so many hospitalization cases. In India, we don't have as many cases until much later in life.

@vandana7 As I said, I am rarely ill and take no prescriptions normally and have never been in a hospital since I had an auto accident at age 19. I am doing quite well for age 77.

Thank you, @vandana7! Naprosen is anti-inflammatory for the heel. The pneumonia is gone now and lungs are clear.

Is the man in the photo your doctor? I steer clear of antibiotics as much as I can, I always have some kind of reaction to them.

No, he is a generic photo. I saw a woman nurse practitioner today, very sharp.

I am all the time concerned when antibiotics are prescribed, there are so many draw backs, but when it is necessary, it is necessary.
