The New Prince Has A Name

It seems that those who were betting got it all wrong, it isn't Albert, Alexander or Arthur. It is Louis. Pronounced like Louie, with the additional names of Arthur and Charles. I am rather surprised myself. Obviously, there is very little chance that little Louis will ever take the throne in England since he is after his grandfather Charles, His father William, his brother George and for the first time ever, even his sister Charlotte. If his siblings are any indication, he is going to be a serious cutie. Welcome Prince Louis Arthur Charales of Cambridge.

Why for the first time ever? UK had many Queens, it's not so uncommon.

Because before the Queen changed the rules, all sons would rule before their sisters. She keeps her spot and Louis is after her. Princess Anne fell back behind her two younger brothers Edward and Andrew.

@LadyDuck It had nothing to do with who Anne married, it was automatic when Andrew was born, he automatically went ahead of Anne, it was the law in England. Boys rule before girls. The only reason the Queen is the queen is because she had no brothers. Even Queen Elizabeth the first had to give way to her younger brother Edward.

@BelleStarr I remember when she took this decision because Anne married someone she did not like.

I heard they had to wait for his grandfather to arrive home before they could give out the name.

That may or may not be the case but they always wait a few days after the birth to announce it,

It seems to me an unusual choice but perhaps it isn't.

When you consider that Lord Mountbatten was Louis and both William and George have it as one of their names, it isn't quite so unusual.

@BelleStarr I guess you're right. And it hasn't turned up for a while which is probably something they consider.

I am disappointed, it's one of my least favorite names, I was hoping for Alexander. I have heard Lord Mountbatten was quite the manipulator and somewhat distasteful. I wonder what the queen thinks about the honor. Her private thoughts, I'm sure her public voice will be favorable.

I like how they pronounce it. I have always wanted a royal family to buck tradition, and give their child an unusual name. Or, a regular name, just not one you never hear of used in royalty. But I'm American, so what do I know?

Most of the kings of France were named Louis but not English. It is a cute name for an English prince.Lord Mountbatten who is a relative of Prince Philip was a Louis and a good mentor to Prince Charles so maybe that is why they chose the name.

No, it is more of a French royal name but Prince Philip's uncle was Lord Louis Mountbatten so I suspect that is where the name comes from.
