I have done both. I loved my house but for me renting was much better for me. It all depends on your situation and your finances.

If One can afford it is always better to own a house as we can do the changes as per our needs from time to time which is not possible in rented house. We can save the monthly rent too by owning our own house. But then you need to have good neighborhood and be prepared for paying various property taxes.Thanks @augusta123 !

A homeowner has an asset that he can do whatever he wants anytime especially when worst comes to worst so let's start from that.

I prefer being a house owner. I would rather spend money maintaining my home rather than paying rent
