Welcome to Derby Week! One week from today it’ll all be over, and gas prices will be back to normal (along with hotel room prices) around here. But for now, we have to gouge those out-of-towners!! Oh, well, I’ll ignore it and enjoy the next song on my favorite songs with really short (as in, four letters or less) titles. Here’s a golden oldie for the penultimate tune. #2: When - Kalin Twins So dad didn’t allow rock and roll in the house, right? That’s why I grew up thinking this was a country song: we had the 45. Mom was probably responsible for us having this one. I always say my dad taught me to love country music, but my mom taught me to love all music. Harold and Herbert Kalin had one big hit in their short career, but it was a doozy. It was a #1 song in many parts of the world (including England, where Picky Wedia says they were the first twins to hit #1 there], and made the top five here in America. They had “real jobs” (ha ha) after the success faded, then appeared on a number of “oldies” shows (such as linked below). They died within a year of each other in the mid-2000s. What a fun song, harkening back to the innocence of early rock and roll. When Written by Paul Evans and Jack Reardon Recorded by the Kalin Twins Released as a single, 1958 I want you near me:
THE KALIN TWINS - WHEN - (LIVE) 1989 Had a hit record with this at number 1 in 1958 stayed in the UK charts for 5-weeks

I am not sure about this one. Sort of familiar but then it has that typical 50s sound.

What a great song from my early years! And aren't they all dressed so beautifully? No torn jeans and dirty T-shirts for these folks.

And to think, that’s a 1989 clip, too, 31 years after it was a hit!

First time I hear of them but what a nice cheerful tune. As I watched the video, I said those background singers look familiar.

Huh. Between all the oldies my mother listened to while I was growing up, and our "Classic Weekends" at the station every weekend, you think I should know this, but it doesn't sound familiar at all. Weird.
