With all the songs with that title, I'll bet you're wondering which one is the "gem" on my list of favorite songs that have four letters or less in their title. I apologize to all you Bread fans who were waiting for "If." It wasn't considered...and for a good reason. Here's my favorite short-word title song. #1: Ruby - Dave Rawlings Machine There are songs that cause you to remember the first time you heard them. I even remember the goose bumps on my goose bumps and the tears rolling down my cheek when I saw them do this live. Both times. Yeah, it's that kind of song. Dave Rawlings is an other-worldly guitar player, but he's only released two albums (seven years apart, no less). He usually produces others' music, and he's also Gillian Welch's right-hand man. His "machine," when I saw them, included former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones playing mandolin and fiddle. And, thankfully, both times I saw him (I've seen Dave & Gillian three times, the other time was when Gillian was the "name" on the ticket and her songs were featured instead of his) he did this song. It's beautiful. It took my breath away. I hardly expect it to do that to everyone (music is subjective art, after all), but if you see me and hear this song play, be sure to pass the nebulizer to me. Thanks for reading. Ruby Written by Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch Recorded by the Dave Rawlings Machine From A Friend of a Friend, 2009 Your world's on fire:

That darn Lori stole my thunder. I was going to ask if Ruby takes her love to town.

Wow. That was great! John Paul Jones, huh? I just had to explain to my wife just how talented he is, and how, even though the focus was always on Jimmy and Robert, he actually had the most to do with Zep's sound. That must have been something to see.

Here's JPJ on mandolin with the Dave Rawlings Machine. This is the song he joined Willie Watson for on fiddle when they played it here.

I always enjoy a song with beautiful harmony and heartfelt feeling behind it! I like "IF" but after listening to this song that Bread classic just got bumped back quite a few spots in my short song favorites. Nice
