First the broken door destroyed by termites. Second was the you tube video about how accurate dogs are when it comes to burglars. I realized that if you don't have your dog trained to guard the house, the burglar ends up doing what it wants. There was a dog training area few kilometers from here but it was somewhat for a show.
Dog trainer Mike D'Abruzzo who specializes in training guard dogs decided to put some dogs to test see how they reacted when he posed as a burglar and entere...

Hello @aureliah Same here, but crazy thing is that sometimes my dog barks when I'm around. It's like he's showing off for some reason.

we do not have dogs at home. we are scared of burglars. so what we just do is to see to it always that the door is locked properly..

It's a good thing that our dog bites people who may intrude our house.

Hello @Shavkat I hope it happens only inside the house, people get sued when they bite people on the outside.

i believe dogs have the natural instincts of barking at unknown persons. and i also think those termites at the door should be addressed already. how about applying solignum? or changing your damaged door?

You should record your dog's most vicious bark, or the vicious bark of another dog and use it as a house alarm that goes off when someone steps up to the door, window or garage. You can turn it on whenever you are not there or while you are sleeping like a regular alarm. It will also get your dog barking for real.

Hello @Starmaiden That's like having a motion censor and activate a recorded bark. Unfortunately, I don't have that.

Dogs usually can feel when there's someone comes near your house. How much more when it is an intruder.

@Letranknight2015 Dogs have different breeds and they vary. But all are protective in so many cases.

Our dog used to bark when he heard us come home. Lol! We have a security system and no dog now.

Hello @DianneN I don't mind having a security system, but we also experience block outs too before so automated security isn't practical for us here.

It looks like that fear had boiled up and had gotten the best of you, my friend. But prevention is better than cure. We will never know.

Hello @mlgen1037 I agree that prevention is better than cure, this is why I'm going to have more dogs at home.
