Except for food, do humans need other animals?

I believe we need other animals not for food but for many other reasons. For example, if we have a pet they are our best company when we are lonely. Except for food, do humans need other animals?

Greetings, Theoretically, the planet as it is doesn't need most of us or most of the species out there. We, though, need many kinds of animals. For example, you mentioned pets as companies. Yes, they are excellent as companies. Cats were used centuries ago to hunt mices, as well, so you could say it was a use to us. But right now, there are lots of other species we need. And I'm not talking about food. I'm talking about bees, for example, who hold great responsibility for the maintenance of the ecosystem. Nature is wild, a savage place. But one specie is after the other - and so, we need most of them in order to keep the "balance". I say "balance" because there isn't really a harmony - it's survival of the fittest, after all. Regards!

I think we do. I love my pets. Over the years I have had hamsters, dogs, cats...some people have horses. It's always nice to have a companion in life that loves you unconditionally, and animals often do.

Actually, humans can live quite nicely without eating the flesh of animals.

I'm not much of a meat eater. Surely we need animals for other things and not just for food

Animals are human's friends. Some animals are even more affectionate than humans. We should live in peace with animals.
