Diary Thursday 3rd May 2018
Though cloudy, it looked as if the day might go without rain, so I caught a bus to the city of Lancaster to get some pub sign photo, with a particular wish to capture images suitable for my pub signs in science fiction study.
Lancaster is quite a large pread out city centre, with a great castle and cathedral on the hill overlooking the city which has the river Lune and the Lancaster Canal at its heart too.
I got lots of pub shots, including the one enclosed here for The Robert Gillow, named after the trader who first brought Mahogany to Europe and the inventor of the telescopically folding table. The sign captures the compass points beautifully, reflecting Gillows's early voyages of international trade and discovery.
On the return from Lancater, jut before the rain finally started, I stopped off briefly in the quaint village of Galsgate, getting photo of both of the pubs there too.

That's a lovey sign. I am attracted to anything with a compass.

Do people ever ask why you're taking the photos?

Interesting sign! They trade in the unusual and what might an example of that be?
