Is this really news?

Apparently, in a move that goes contrary to absolutely no traditions what so ever, Meghan Markle's father will be walking her down the aisle during her impending nuptials to Prince Harry. Really?? This is news??? Maybe if her father is a transvestite street entertainer specialising in catching an impressive range of fruits and vegetables between his butt cheeks and was planning on performing his act while escorting his daughter down the aisle!! That would be news!!! Bloke does what blokes do!! Not news! I'm getting a little tired of the publicity that surrounds such occasions. Two people are getting married. That is all. In fact the best way I heard it described was by one commentator who said it's just a bloke on state benefits marrying a mixed-race girl. What's the big deal? It happens on council estates around the UK every week!! Meanwhile, in other news: Man kisses wife. Parent takes child to school. Bar worker serves drinks. People eat. The world turns. Must be a bloomin' slow news day!!!

It is a bit ridiculous some of the stuff that they consider news worthy.

I suppose with websites and 24 hour news channels they have to fill them somehow!!

That is silly because there are so many more important newsworthy things to write about but it has always been that way people are fascinated by the Royals.

@RasmaSandra , I am one who is NOT fascinated by the royals. I am even anti monarchy.

@marlina it gets tiring hearing about them all the time. Here in Latvia, they are rarely mentioned except of course for the main news and since I work at home I don't have to hear about them at all. To me it would seem strange being ruled my monarchy.

@RasmaSandra , I think that if we had a monarchy, I would become a rebel.

I know exactly what you mean. Prince Harry is my favourite royal because he's such a guy and acted like a normal bloke when he was growing up. I'm genuinely pleased that he's happy but I wish the media wouldn't shove it down our throats every two minutes.

One of the problems the media have is that they have so many column inches to fill and so many hours (usually 24) of TV to fill every day. If it moves, report on it!! And if it doesn't, still report on it!!

@WorDazza People do like to hear about the royals even if it is mindless news. I shall probably watch the wedding when it happens on the 18th.

@sofssu I once read through all of my old myLot posts. What can I say? I was bored and didn't have any fingernails left to remove with rusty pliers. I had forgotten writing most of the stuff I posted and found myself quite entertained. But then again I'm easily pleased!!

I read that Meghan Markle's Dad ended up not coming to the wedding due to health issues. He had suffered a heart attack shortly before the wedding.

@WorDazza I agree. I do hope Harry & Megyn's marriage lasts. Back when Prince Charles & Lady Diana got married, my Mom, Sister & I woke at 4 am to watch it. I was thinking what a fairy tale it was. But, that marriage did not last.

@LeaPea2417 There has been a lot of scepticism in the UK about the marriage. On the one hand you have the school of thought that it's all been arranged so that the Royal Family are portraying a more inclusive UK (socially and racially) and on the other hand Harry wouldn't have been allowed to marry a mixed-race, American divorcee if there was the slightest chance he was going to get anywhere near the throne!!

As it turned out the whole issue of her father was far more interesting than the wedding itself. But then again watching my grass grow was more interesting than the wedding!!

So the fact that a father will be walking his daughter down the aisle is news? My father did and plenty of fathers do this every day and none of them is in the "news of the day".

I have to admit I am a royal watcher. I think we here in Canada are more ardent royal watchers than those in England. I remember the royal weddings and births and I can't wait to see another one. In this life where its all about hate and wars and horrible things, I am glad to know there are things I can watch that makes me escape it all.

@WorDazza you have a point but as far as the media is concerned, reporting on the Kardashians is more news worthy than some ordinary person doing great things. You could start your own but will most people care about the little guy. The way I deal with news I don't care about is to change channels.

@Freelanzer I tend to do the same but sometimes you can't escspe certain things. A sad reflection on society when people would rather eavesdrop on a bunch of whining, plastic non-entities than celebrate the achievements of extraordinary people.

I can understand the desire for good news but there are so many ordinary people doing extraordinary things you could fill a 24 hour news channel with their feelgood stories. Maybe I should start one!!!!

@CRK109 Yeah, I think that's my sentiment on the whole thing. I'm happy that he seems to be happy but I don't feel it's necessary to know every detail of his wedding!!

@WorDazza hahaha that's very true! But I think that because he is Diana's son (regardless of where he is in the line) he's important to the people. I'm happy for him but I don't really care for all the constant bombarding of "news"
