My Australian Adventure Begins in Seven Days

After a long ten months wait, my Australian adventure is almost here. In just seven days I'll leave home and start on my way to Darwin, Australia. I'm spreading the travel over three days, partly because I no longer tolerate long flights - in this case over 5000 km - and partly because getting connecting flights to Darwin at the time I booked was a challenge. So, I have a couple of overnight hotel stops along the way.
I have a couple of days in Darwin and one of my goals there is to get up close to a crocodile - preferably one in captivity. Darwin has a tropical climate and the temperatures will be up in the mid 30C range while I'm there, heat I'm not accustomed to in my part of New Zealand.
The rail trip I'm taking through the desert centre of Australia, top to bottom of the continent from Darwin to Adelaide, begins on 16 May and will involve four days and three nights. Internet access will be difficult and so I'm looking forward to having a few days removed from technological connection.
At the end of the trip I'm spending a couple of days in Adelaide, before flying back to reality in New Zealand.
And, the really good news is, my first draft book manuscript is all but complete and goes to my editor before I leave. So I really will be relaxing and enjoying the trip.

That sounds like an amazing trip. I adore Australia and have been there twice in my life. I ended my Darwin which I found hot, sticky and wet. Yes, it was in the wet season. I saw plenty of crocodiles in the national park. On the tropical day there was heavy rain and loud thunder. Earlier on my trip I had visited Adelaide where I rode a tram. Also in South Australia I visited pretty Kangaroo Island. It had kangaroos, amazing rocks and lovely beaches. I saw penguins there in the evening. Wow.
