While searching for something in an old newspaper online recently I decided to put in my father' name, as my sister and I had been trying to work out when he had come to live in our town. I loved what I found! In 1924 my father, who would have then been 17, was fined in the magistrate's court for riding a motorcycle at an excessive speed. The fine was twenty shillings which, in those days was probably nearly a month's salary. Now , that's something my father never told me!

It's great to find out more about our parents that we didn't know. That's quite interesting! Hope you find out more info that he kept from you.

I knew there were things about him that were 'interesting', just a little bit different, but I hadn't known that he rode a motorbike.

@DianneN Like many kids, I was embarrassed by him when I was younger. Now I'd dearly love to know him and his little quirks better.

Our parents, like us, make mistakes when they are young. They are embarrassed to share these things with us. I sometimes tell my daughter some wrong things I did when I was a kid.

This is the kind of things I will never find. Italy is so far behind putting old stuff online.

Our national library is slowly putting all the old newspapers throughout the country online. My local ones are only up to the 1920s so far.

@valmnz One Italian newspaper has put the most important articles online, from 1867 (6 years later Italy was unified).

Now that must have been a fun find. It makes him a little more human.

Things that happen when we are young and foolish! I think no father would tell his children those things.

Oh he kept it a secret, did he. Well any information about a loved one is great to have.
