What's Creepier than feeling as if someone has just walked into your home?

I've been trying to put my finger on it, but I just can't seem to do so. Earlier, I was sitting in the den and watching Kitchen Nightmare's when I heard a sound as if someone was walking towards the kitchen. Now, the way the house is set up, you have to go through the kitchen to get to the room I was in. There is a side door to the house in the room I was in, but no one uses it anymore. This isn't the first time I've thought I've heard someone in the house. The sound is so distinct, and it's more than a little disconcerting. I did end up walking through the house, and I found no one. There are some weird acoustics in part of the house, an echo (or amplified sound) that carries from the neighbors, but I wasn't in that part of the house at the time. I hate being here alone at night because the house has an eerie ambiance. It's an older home (built in the 70's), and as such does have it's creaks and settling sounds, but these sounds are not those sounds.

That's odd. It may just be the house settling, ghosts, or one of many other explanations. I hope you figure out what is causing this.

@velvet53 Yes, especially considering the layout of the house allows for several spots for actual people to hide if they so chose. Perfect for hide and seek, not so much for home security.

It's an old house, so it really could be anything.

Do you find any cold spots at your house or see any orbs?

Then it is unlikely to have anything then.

@id_peace I wouldn't say it's completely unlikely, but cold spots are a good indication of spirtiual activity.

You said not the first time, I would get a preacher and have him pray through the house. Your family has always owned it, but before I would move into a house I had the preacher pray and anoint it.

No, Thank You. I don't feel threatened, though whatever the noise was did catch me off guard.

Perhaps is is just your imagination going on overdrive?

I don't think so. I wasn't watching anything that would cause me to imagine something like that. I didn't get overly worked up about it, and was able to go back to sitting comfortably in front of the t.v. after I investigated the noise.

Sometimes I think houses have a life of their own. I too hear strange sounds at times but I figure it is the house doing its thing.

Sometimes is is just the house "doing it's thing", things settling, etc. Of course, the older the home, the more likely there is some sort of "residue" of another's life in it.

Noise is weird, especially at night. But that's all it is ... just noise. It could just have been your ears??

That's very likely. I do have problems with my left ear.

You'd better not watch scary movie when you are at home alone.

I definitely do not. I wouldn't be able to sleep if I were to do that.

This wasn't like that. Not that it isn't a good assumption though.

I wasn't alone in the house, and I seemed to have insinuated that I was. My bad.

Do some research on the house and see if you can find a bit of history on it. Or even some history about the property it sits on.

Built in '74, same family (mine) has owned it since it was built. Not sure about the history of the land though.
