Career Day and now to sit and take a break

Today was an easy day of cyber school. Usually my sons live classes are over at noon and then we have offline work for the next few hours. Today though the live classes went until 2:30 and there was no other work for the day. It was a mandatory career day event. It was pretty neat. He decided he might want to be a baker someday. I told him he should start helping me cook and start learning how. After dinner I made a Cranberry Sweet Potato bread. He wanted to help so he added the flour but then ran back to his new video game that came in the mail today I folded laundry, did the dishes and mowed 1/4 of the lawn. I also picked up some of the garbage that had blown down the big hill over the years and picked up some of the metal. I will have all the metal picked up and in one spot for the guy to pick up by tomorrow. Darn phone battery just popped up as low so I have to plug it in. I might as well go lay in bed and read a book. I finished “One Summer” last night and started reading “The Hit” this morning. Both are books by David Baldacci. Photo is of the bread I baked.

@Courtlynn I think he would have helped me longer if it hadn't been for the new game he was so excited about. I cook things all the time so he is welcome to help me anytime he wants When they were little they loved helping me bake things but the older they got the less fun it was for them.

@shaggin yeah, I think its normal for kids to stop helping as they get older.

You had a busy day and that bread looks so good. My son started baking and cooking young, I put him through culinary school, he loved to cook and bake and his breads were the best.

@cintol that is so neat! I wonder if my son will actually want to do this when he is older. He is 10 and a lot of interests change as they grow up. I wanted to be an art teacher when I was little but as a late teen knew I wasn't good enough lol

@shaggin I was a single mom so I worked a lot and he had to make some of his meals, he got into it and never let it go. His dream was always to open a bakery and it was the best money I ever spent. I hope your son will enjoy cooking and want to stay with it. I am sorry you didn't get to be an art teacher

@DianneN I got a few minutes to sit down and write this post as well as read for about 15 minutes before I fell asleep at 10 so I won't complain. If I had extra time I'd just find something else that needed doing I don't sit still very well.

That bread looks SOOO nice! It seems the lure of a video game was too much for your son to resist.

@JudyEv it was great that he wanted to help but yep that new game was just to exciting. He had been waiting a week for it to arrive. I hope soon he will want to bake with me again for a longer time. He used to help me cook a lot more when he was little.

@shaggin It is a great skill for any young person to have - just to know the basics at least. And so much cheaper and healthier if you can cook for yourself rather than having fast food so much.

@Hannihar usually he will stick it out but this new game he waited a week for an it just came about a half hour before I started baking so he just really wanted to play it.

@Happy2BMe it wasn't to bad I just didn't get much time to sit. Today while my son is doing cyber school I am catching up on here. I gave the puppy a bath and will be mowing more of the lawn soon and picking up the remaining metal.

@snowy22315 It looked good but was a bit plain I thought. I think it was supposed to use a lot of healthy ingredients but it could have been better if the recipe had called for granulated sugar.

It's good to have another cook or baker in the house. The bread looks good and I can almost taste it but not quite!

@1hopefulman with an entire can of sweet potatoes in it I assumed it would taste kind of like pumpkin pie but it didn't at all. It wasn't bad just bland.

@1hopefulman yes I think it needed granulated sugar. It was better today though after being chilled.

I am on book 9. What one are you reading at the moment? The bread was pretty bland. I think it needed granulated sugar. Getting ready to make a smoothie here soon and my son's lunch before going out to mow more of the lawn.

That bread looks delicious! Sounds like you had a busy day and got a lot done. I'd like to read myself tonight. I started a humorous book while I was waiting an hour for a meeting to start. I'd like to get back to it.

@shaggin Valerie Tate. The book was Catnip, not to be confused with the book by the same title by Carole Nelson Douglas, the first book in another cat mystery series. Love them both.

@LadyDuck the bread to me needed some granulated sugar added to it to give it more flavor. I ate it warm though so maybe it will be yummier today eaten cold. Some foods are better after being chilled. I always relax in bed at night and read before falling asleep. It helps me sleep better.

@HazySue I had a get together Tuesday at a local park with my friends and their kids. I made strawberry Rice krispie treats, zucchini cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, and apple crisp. It was all delicious and I enjoyed what little leftovers there was.

@andriaperry the bread could have used some granulated sugar to make it taste better. I think it was supposed to be a fairly healthy recipe though. Today I have to mow more of the lawn and clean up the last of the metal before it starts raining at 2.
