Anyone else suffering from insomnia? Unable to sleep at night?

May 11, 2018 1:35am CST
I have been suffering from insomnia for about a year now and have no idea how to deal with it. I have blamed my husband in the past, for his snoring and constant shifting, tearing at the sheets, etc, however, I have recently noticed that I still cannot fall asleep even when he is still. Any suggestions? Do you do anything special to help you fall asleep?

when I have trouble, I watch something boring on YouTube and I often find myself falling asleep easily.

I have tried this, unfortunately, I am easily stimulated by tv or video and often want to watch things to their conclusion... even if I am not interested! Blast! I think I will try to drink some tea before bed... someone recommended that...

There are different sites in the internet to help you battle against insomnia. I suggest watching ASMR videos on youtube, it helps a lot.

@moneymakinmom I drink tea regularly so I don't see a difference, but for my fiancé who doesn't drink tea and he does- he has a hard time sleeping. I guess it's the caffeine? No idea. I hope the tea works for you then.. Varies for everyone. Have you tired reading?

Your body needs time to shift into sleep mode, so spend the last hour before bed doing a calming activity such as reading. For some people, using an electronic device such as a laptop can make it hard to fall asleep, because the particular type of light emanating from the screens of these devices is activating to the brain. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid electronics before bed or if you wake up in the middle of the night.

I do try to limit my usage of electronics before bedtime. It usually works, but I have a bad habit of having the TV on, which is another electronic device that probably interrupts brain waves and makes it impossible to fall asleep! I really like having some noise in the background though... music, tv, anything...I really enjoy listening to my fan in the summertime.

Try reading a book while in bed. And I mean a real book, not on a Kindle or other electronic device. I would avoid tea, unless it's decaffeinated. You might drop off to sleep but the caffeine will kick in after 1/2 an hour or so and wake you up!!

You're probably waiting for him to start snoring. If you try lying on a cliff edge, you'll find you soon drop off.

First of all - welcome to the site, I hope you enjoy it here. Have you a spare bedroom you could sleep in? If you could do that your body may get into 'sleep mode', then maybe move back in with your husband when it does. Bit drastic I know, but trying to sleep with someone else in the room can be off-putting.

I usually work on a book or watch TV until I'm tired enough to go to sleep and I'm out as soon as I hit the pillow. Welcome to myLot.

I occasionally have trouble falling asleep and usually it's because I have a hard time relaxing, I ate to much right before going to bed, or I am worried about something I am going through at the time. When I want to relax, I will listen to some calming nature sounds and I find those on you tube, i.e; water sounds, birds singing, and rushing water falls. I might take a relaxing bath an hour before bed if time allows, a nice bubble bath in the candle light can do wonders for my mood. Also, there are relaxing teas, such as: sleepy time tea that works wonders for creating drowsiness. Making sure the bedroom is properly ventilated, not to warm or to cold, is always helpful and make sure to eat about three hours before laying down, so that food can begin the digestion process.
