We Were Caught Accidently Stealing!

May 11, 2018 11:19am CST
The title says it all. We were in Sears, just shopping around, and my Papaw was loading up the buggy with tools that he needed. As he was grabbing a table saw, he noticed a marked down wrench set on another shelf. There were supposed to be 8 wrenches in the package, but because one was missing, it was marked down to $5. He tossed it in the buggy, and forgot about it as he went to grab other stuff. We go to check out, and the total was a whopping $350. As we go to leave the buzzer things go off and two men come over, and bring us to lost prevention. Turns out, the wrenches accidentally got shoved, out of view, under the metal child seat which had a blanket over it for my sister who was sitting in it. Loss prevention called the police, even though we offered to pay for the product 500 times, and told them we didn’t mean to do it. I mean, come on! There were $200 worth of power tools, and $150 worth of other tools that we already paid for. Why would we try to steal a $5 wrench set with a missing wrench? The police came, they thought it was ridiculous too, but my grandparents still had to go to court for it. They won the case though. So what’s your, “I got caught stealing” story? Do you think loss prevention has gotten out of hand?

@cupkitties It's too much to ask from foreigners to notice such things.

I think they took the situation too far. I would not ever shop there again if I was in you all shoes. Anyway, I have not been in a situation like that.

They need better training or were just looking for publicity. I've noticed a lot of things getting taken out of hand lately just because somebody wants to be in the newspaper

Once and not too long back a very sneaky so called Security Guard made me empty my handbag after I had already paid and much to the annoyance of the cashier who whispered to me "don´t worry he is doing it to show off and making himself look big in front of everyone". Of course I had nothing in my handbag and he was very miffed I can tell you to find nothing there. All the Cashier girls disliked him as he was scaring off customers by stalking them around the Store. I can understand it happening though don´t get me wrong with everyone in such a rush it can happen so that is why I take it easy when I am shopping in any place. So sorry it happened to them too genuine things like that do happen.
