Rice Facts- Brown or White -Brown rice has 4x more fiber and 4x more magnesium than white rice. -Brown rice being a whole grain contains more nutrients than white rice. -Brown rice contains phytates which are also known as anti-nutrients. These anti-nutrients bind to minerals and prevent them from being absorbed by your body. -However, these phytates do have protective properties which help against heart disease and cancer. -White rice raises your blood sugar more quickly than brown rice. This can increase your risk for type 2 diabetes. -White rice is a staple of the Japanese diet and studies show Japanese live long and healthy lives. So there are some of the facts. Neither type of rice is really bad for you enjoyed in moderation, but do you have a preference? What side of the debate are you on? Or maybe you just judge by taste? When we were young we used to have brown rice as staple food in our villages! But with the advancement of time people have become commercial and they wanted to earn more money from rice and they have started polishing the rice. The bye products after polishing were rice bran and this was used as cattle feed. Now since it contains good content of oil it is used to extract oil from it which is rich in healthy omega three fatty acids. That means the brown rice is the best thing and the white rice is nothing but simply starch which is not good for health especially for diabetic patients. so any day I would prefer brown rice ! Thanks!

Brown rice takes three time more to cook than white rice and I do not like the taste of brown rice. This is the only reason why I only buy white rice. We do not eat a lot of rice, but Italians are second only to Japanese about long and healthy life... at least it was until the US fast food chains arrived there.

@dgobucks226 Well, to be honest, your fast food have ruined many young people. Life expectancy was second only to Japan in Italy, I am not sure our young people will live as long as their ancestors.

@LadyDuck So sorry....As I hardly ever go to a fast food place I can only imagine the fattening ingredients they use to make their dishes is not good. Maybe some olive oil is needed instead of what they are using for flavor, lol

Unless you add seasoning or some kind of sauce, white rice is very bland tasting plus, brown rice is healthier for you and tastes better by itself.

Yes, I totally agree about the bland taste of white rice. I will usually get something with flavor when I have that kind maybe a long-grain rice with seasonings or a rice pilaf.

I am diabetic but prefer white rice. I take it in moderation and that too once a day. Certain Indian preparations do not mix well with brown rice - siva

White rice is better for you in the long run because brown rice is not processed to the point of eliminating all the shall fragments which are detrimental to the body because our systems cannot process them.

I prefer brown rice! I see rice like lettuce, the darker the color is more nutrients. Though I know itS not exactly that reason, its a general mental pic!

There may be some truth to that theory of yours. Brown (darker) contains more nutrients than the white.
