Can You Really Celebrate Sobriety If You're Not Really Sober?

I know a lady who is an alcoholic and a drug addict. Last fall she went to rehab (the second time within a year) and to this day she brags about her sobriety. But she's always posting on FB about going out for drinks and smoking pot. Sorry, but if you drink alcohol and are smoking pot, then you are not really sober. So I don't think you get to celebrate 6 months clean, because you are not. (You might be clean from the hard stuff, and that's to be commended, but you are definitely not sober.) I know a lot of people who have this attitude, though. They think if they give up the hard drugs, they can keep drinking and smoking and still celebrate sobriety. I don't think A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous) and N.A. (Narcotics Anonymous) would agree.

I agree with you, she is not "sober".

And the sad thing is, knowing her, if she continues to do these things, she'll wind up relapsing with the harder stuff, too. It's like watching a train wreck.

@Srbageldog It does not help her by posting on social media either.

@Srbageldog Yeah, nope. I don't like the taste, texture, anything so I don't drink. I'd usually order boba, some sort of drink, or soda. I won't get water though. Lol. But yeah some people just post whatever for attention so that can be what she's doing too.

If she goes out for drinking and smoking pot she has no reason to celebrate 6 months clean, she is not clean at all.

@Srbageldog This is pretty ridiculous, if you need to take medications is not for your pleasure.

@LadyDuck I agree completely. But I guess some addicts will abuse their medications to get high.

That is my opinion also. I have heard that people in N.A. and A.A. don't even consider you clean if you take medicines prescribed by your doctor!

I agree with you. I know people who are the same way celebrating they are sober but then are out getting drunk or smoking pot.

She shouldn't pat herself on the back and claim she is. That's sort of an insult to recovered addicts who actually ARE sober.

Well, isnt it there would be withdrawal during those times that she is sober? That is not sobriety for me.

People are silly I guess. Their definition of "sober" isn't the same as ours...
