Can you read the words to that song without singing it in your head?

You ever come across the lyrics of a song that you know or love, but you can't quite separate the song from the words in your head, so you sing it in your mind when you're reading the lyrics? This happens to me all the time.

@AlisaTR We were taught to sing it also. Can be more difficult to just say it if you know how to sing it instead.

And so I so get why my 4-year old feels the need to sing the alphabet whenever I ask him to say it. I literally have to stop him and say, "No, don't sing it. Say it." It's never quite as easy that way.

Better that I sing it in my mind than aloud.

@AlisaTR . That happened to me when I was a kid. No one was home so I made up songs and sang them as loud as I could. Then I saw my father, who could really sing, sitting on a couch. He told me I sounded great, but I know he fibbed.

Once, my husband was outside and I was singing away lustily. He came running inside to see if everything was okay. Said he heard me screaming, I just remembered that when I read your comment.

I would be interested to know why the brain works like that, like what makes us actually involuntarily start singing in our heads

Seems so... I guess we all are singers up there in our head.
