Will Selling Bibles Eventually Be Banned in California

We all know that California's politics are extremely liberal, but the bill that Governor Brown will probably sign, AB 2943, has implications that could also make it illegal to sell Bibles in California. The bill would also make Christian counseling programs and conferences designed to help those with UNWANTED same sex desires or gender confusion issues to change their sexual orientation to straight, illegal. It also makes it illegal to sell materials that help in that effort. Knowing the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, they could decide the Bible fits into that category. Here's a link to more information on the bill if you are interested. http://www.californiafamily.org/2018/new-ca-bill-outlaws-helping-anyone-with-unwanted-same-sex-desires-or-gender-confusion/ I think this is a gross violation of the First Amendment. But California isn't noted these days for upholding the Constitution. What are your thought on this?

According to Snopes and other fact checkers, this is simply not the truth about the bill.
A Republican politician and a right-wing television station grossly misrepresented California legislation that would amplify restrictions on "gay conversion therapy."

@bagarad I suspect that free speech will win out. Right wing commentators certainly have their own biases as well.

I have been hearing a lot about this and it's scary, to be honest. Things happen so very smoothly, even though they upset us at the beginning, we soon adjust and go on. This seems to be one of those bigger things that may upset a lot of people but will be smoothed over and almost forgotten until the right time. The "right time" being the coup that shuts down freedom of any kind in America.

@bagarad It is. And as much as we say that we trust God, I seriously doubt there is a Christian alive who doesn't cringe a little when confronted with the possibility of having to go against their own government and suffer for it.

@peavey You are right. No one looks forward to being a target. We have to trust that God will give us the grace we need to face trouble when it comes.

There are a few people who would like to have it only for themselves, and they are trying to divide our people into factions that war against each other. They want to silence opposition to anything they disagree with. They took over the schools long ago, and so the young don't even know the freedoms we used to enjoy or that we are still supposed to enjoy under the Constitution.

@bagarad This is my feeling. The governments around the world are trying to divide people. We are no more enjoying the freedom we had when I was young. Soon they will restrict also the Internet freedom, I am sure.

If the Word Of God is banned in California, I feel sorry for the politicians that make this law effective because having earthquakes in the Golden State will be the least of their worries.

We don't have to keep putting up with it. I'm hoping this power grab and all the others will finally convince people to change the way they vote.

@JohnRoberts But the tide may be turning. The liberals lead such isolated lives they may not realize how many of the "old" Democrats from Kennedy's time and before do not like the new more extreme version of the party. I think they may be beginning to wake up now. We mustn't give up and stay home from the polls. We can still make a difference in the local elections and the winners of those will eventually work themselves up the ladder.

@bagarad The state is so overwhelmed with liberals, brainwashed generation by the most liberal academia in the country and "bought off" immigrants that change is near impossible.

@bagarad current political and social situation in the Philippines is a good example. The Constitution was grossly violated and fanatics are saying that the rule of law was followed. The truth is the opposition is being persecuted and treated as enemies of the state.

@allen0187 There appears to be corruption in high places wherever there are governments with not checks and balances. We are supposed to have them here, but they aren't working because it appears more than one branch is corrupt.

I agree, Allen. Today it may be a violation that's politically correct, but tomorrow what's politically correct could change. Too many people are too easily offended these days and just don't like to be uncomfortable. They don't care about whether their words or actions may make others who don't share their beliefs and opinions feel uncomfortable.

@Srbageldog I have heard from people for whom it has worked, especially those who were never truly LGBT in the first place but had been persuaded to try that lifestyle by someone else, sometimes even a school curriculum. Trying to convert someone to that lifestyle is not forbidden by the law. What is forbidden is helping them convert back.

@bagarad From my understanding of the bill, it just expands the ban of gay conversion therapy, which is already banned against minors. I believe that type of therapy needs to be permanently banned. It has been proven not to work, and only causes harm to those who take part in it.

I think they should be allowed to sell bibles, you dont have to buy it if you dont want. The same with counseling if you dont want it dont get it.

There isn't enough water. Perhaps some of the brains are dehydrating. Trust me, only the big cities are like that. But they can outvote us. We don't have an electoral college here to make it fair like there is for presidential elections. That's why we have it. So the more populous states can't perpetually keep smaller and less populated states from being represented. Those in the more populous areas want to get rid of the electoral college for that reason. But it isn't the reason they will give you. The framers of the Constitution put the Electoral College there to make it fair.

@porwest I think the Electoral College is only federal and only for electing the President of the United States. What state do you know of that uses it locally?

@bagarad I am definitely a strong advocate of the electoral college. Right. It's there for a reason, and to me, that's to keep the balance. If we did not have it only a few states would matter and the rest of the country's vote would truly be moot. I did not know Cali did not have that for their local and state elections.

You are right. Unless a religion is actually doing something to harm someone, they should be free to practice it. But these leaders disagree about what harms a person.
