Desperation Leads to Strange Behavior

My Front Yard That Needs Work

Yes, the photo shows my neglected front yard after the rains brought a huge crop of weeds into what was once a lawn. My gardener quit in October. But things didn't get out of hand until the last two months as the weeds started to really take over. Now many are dying down since I no longer water where the lawns used to be. I had no idea that the weedy grasses would get so high. Besides the fact that the neighbors will hate me, there's also this little thing called weed abatement I must finish before the end of May. I must get rid of tall weeds near the house. However, what really motivated me was that the tall weeds that border the flower beds were getting ugly and making it impossible to get good photos. I don't own a lawn mower anymore, and I don't plan to put a lawn in again. In desperation tonight, since I needed exercise anyway, I went out with my kitchen shears and did what I could to top off the long seed stalks on the grasses. The photo above is the "before" photo. I'm only half through. I'll show you the "after" photo when I finish. Meanwhile, does anyone have a goat I could use? I'm still wondering what the neighbors thought when they saw me out there attacking those weeds with the scissors. What would you have thought if you'd seen an old woman stooped over her lawn area trying to mow what was left with a pair of scissors?

Definitely. At least they can talk while they work. My husband brought the weed eater home tonight, so we can use it in the next few days to get the weed abatement done.

@bagarad Now that you have got the weed eater, the weeds will be destroyed, most of them anyway.

Scissors? lol. As for me I enjoy the yard work. But I am still a spring chicken at a ripe 44. Not sure I am GOOD at it. But I like to do it.

Your flowers are very beautiful. Sometimes the vitality of the weeds is really strong.

That's desperate. I've done it, though I used a knife to attack the grass in my yard as I didn't have a mower either. That was a long time ago and it took a while to get the grass under control. It also didn't take me long to get a mower. I hope it won't take too long to get it under control.

WE've got to get ourselves under control first. We got shots today and are starting to ache, and I expect we won't feel like yard work tomorrow.

@just4him I don't think the shots are affection me much today, but the heart is acting up again on and off. Hope it behaves better tomorrow. At least I don't have to work on Sunday.

@bagarad True, if we're not under control, nothing else will be. I hope you're feeling better from those shots.

I kept hoping one of my neighbors would. My husband said he will bring our weed eater from the other house and use it himself on the side yard, but I don't trust him with it near my flowers.

@changjiangzhibin89 Yes. It's not my heart feeling it now, but my leg muscles. But help has arrived. My husband brought the weed eater home from the other house.

The heart problem isn't from exercise. So exercising doesn't hurt it unless I'm already having palpitations. Then I have to rest. I was feeling fine last night. But today I'm really feeling it in my legs.

I would have thought that I am not the only one attacking the tallest weeds with scissors. It is too wet to use the mower, but I cannot let the week grow taller than they are now.

@LadyDuck I forgot about that. I've got one of those somewhere. But the weed eater is here now. Hubby says he'll help, but I have a feeling I'd need to learn to use it.

@bagarad No, you are not alone, I have cut all along the border using the scissors and finally I got the bush trimmer for the middle of the lawn.
