'Baby' squirrel in the 'hood

Saw the first evidence of this year's crop of squirrels out front by the 'Squirrel Tree' yesterday. I would guess this one was born sometime in February, since they don't leave the nest until about 12 weeks of age. Eastern Gray squirrels mate between December-February, and again between May-June, so this one has to be from the earlier breeding season. I'll have to keep an eye out and see if any more young'uns start showing up.

He's spending more time at the end of the yard than at the Squirrel Tree lately

@minx267 I have a couple that are slightly different from the others...one has a reddish/blond tail, one has a really short tail, one has deformed ears, but the majority all look much the same

So cute. We have no squirrels in Hawaii, so it's nice to look at.

@JolietJake That's so nice to see. It's fun watching wildlife. Being a bird watcher, I hope to see some pretty white eyed birds. No cute squirrels to watch. Lucky you.

@JolietJake You must be lucky to have squirrels around. I have gone to some parks before in my country and I don't remember seeing a squirrel.

Squirrels are not the kind of animals that you sell or eat. I have never known someone to do that.

I haven't seen any of the young'ens around here, just the old folks. They sure looked skanky when they dropped their winter coats but are fluffing up again.
