Well it's about damn time that I worked these guys into Play it Again, Sam. We are at #28b, the "cover" portion of today's episode: The Mission's cover of The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows." I've made my love of The Mission (known as The Mission UK here in the States) no secret in these music series' of mine. Simply put, the arena rock band trapped in a goth band's body is my favorite band. Prior to releasing a proper album, The Mission, formed in Leeds, England after vocalist/guitarist Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams split from The Sisters of Mercy, put out two EP's, cleverly titled "I," and "II." In 1987, looking to capitalize on the success of the band's debut, God's Own Medicine, Mercury Records compiled those two Extended Play's into a compilation album, The First Chapter. Oddly, the cover of "Tomorrow Never Knows" was not included on the original UK release of the album, but was made, as an edited version, the leadoff track on the US release. Call it psychedelic hippie goth for the masses. Or just call it fantastic, because that's what it is! (Info verified by Wikipedia)
