Maybe not a Golden Rule, but Something We Should Possibly Learn early in Life. That Way When We're Older We Won't Forget!

I was going to dub this idea as a new Golden rule. All this time in at least the last however many years I've thought there were a group of Golden rules. Not sure I ever realized there is only one and it's a good one for it's a part of every religion and group of people. And that is do unto others as you would have them do unto you or a variation of that idea. I think we're needed a rule that if a body part hurts move it unless it's broken or a medical person says not to, move it that it's. My thumb joint bothers me and I'm hoping to get those replaced in the next few years too. Recently, when my thumb was hurting a lot I wasn't sure how I was going to manage. I decided to exercise it by opening and closing my hand several times. Within moments I experienced relief. I'd like to remember to do that several times per day but keep forgetting. Tonight my ankle had been hurting mostly because the wounds isn't yet healed but also because the specialist injected the veins near my ankle with something to kill them. (Anna knows the term better than I do). The ankle bone no longer hurts but it moved to the area above the larger wounds. After walking around the house it felt better, so now I'm trying to remember to pump my foot up and down which does help. Why do we want to baby our aches and pains? Exercising them would probably do us and them more good.

With me, it's the exercising that gives me the pains in the first place.

@MarshaMusselman No, I wasn't joking - I'm mainly talking about gardening. All the bending and digging is not so easy as it used to be, and I it makes my back ache

@jaboUK gardening I put in a different category entirely. Even though it's considered exercise rarely do w we move about in a way that is ergonomically correct. When my back or knees bother me or to make sure they don't afterward I will use a lawn chair and garden from that. I don't care how it looks at least I can get the Job done with a little less stretching. It's funny, Anna out gardening in the same category here too.

Maybe you're doing too much at once or not warming up first? When I've not exercises in awhile I want to quit but mostly just to do other things not because anything hurts. Other than the last few months while dealing with my open wounds, it hurts to do just about anything and then a few minutes later it barely hurts at all. Makes it difficult to know what to do. The wounds are finally almost gone. We're you just joking?

Sclerotherapy, a difficult word to remember. I do like you, when something hurts, I exercise. My right shoulder hurts time by time, I exercise it and I feel better.

Actually, Anna, I'm only beginning to realize this. But, I feel I should have known it all along. That's why I'm having a hard time remembering to move the affected part.

@MarshaMusselman My shoulder hurts a lot right now, I think I exaggerated the working in the garden. I am trying not to show to my husband that it hurts.

It is hard to remember that ultimately we were designed to move and that it is good for us.

Since the time I turned 45 or so, I have begun to feel aching here or there on different parts of my body. Strange since I used to be such a healthy person who never really felt pain or ache anywhere (except a toothache here or there when I was a child). Aging is not a good thing I think.

I think some of our problems could have been prevented head we done certain things differently when we were younger. Not everyone has the aches and pains as they age. I'm hopeful that once my second knee is replaced I will be a lot better.

@MarshaMusselman When I was a child of about 7-8 YO, I thought to myself, I should not walk too much, in case the bones at the knees and ankles, feet etc, got used too much. I should ration myself somehow so that I could have them good for another 70 yrs.' Then one day, I thought again, 'What is the point of rationing the usage of my legs? That is almost the same as not having them!' So I resumed my walks and runs again .
