I Always Do It

This conversation is about more than one thing. About pushing the limits to the max. Seeing how far to go before it breaks. "It" would be me. Sometimes "it" would be someone else or a thing. While at the doctor the male nurse, Tim, told me "this will be the last time I take your blood," and then I asked was he quitting he told me he got another job, at a nursing home. Well, congrats to him! Why? He pushed the limits many times with my poor veins! Its Saturday and I have this amazing colored bruise on my hand. Yes, he could only get blood from me from my hand, a vein that he could see, but that did no good he would twist the needle under my skin, pushing the limits of my pain threshold till he got the vein. Goodbye Tim, I will not miss you. I am 52 years old, I am proud and lucky I have made it to this age. I used to see older women working when I was young, thinking I wanna be her when I get old, lol, my little mind thinking 52 is old. So this is why I still work like I am 35 but the Spring garden makes me feel my age each year. The past week I have pushed "it" to the edge, the breaking point, before stopping and giving up. This morning my back still hurts even after a nice hard sleep. Biofreeze time. Today I will rest the back and just work with the plants in the pots, do paperwork and if not disturbed write several blogs for next week in one sitting. Maybe go shopping, maybe. I am even thinking about going out to dinner, nothing fancy just a bucket of KFC chicken or fish at Captain D`s. Now If I cannot push my body any more, I still have a mind that is sharp. Speaking of minds, last night I was thinking about the pattern of life of a few women that lost their battle with Alzheimer`s, it was interesting to connect a few behaviors, as in how they lived, to the other. One living an hour away from the others. The one connecting thing I seen was they all were stay at home mothers and wives and they watched A LOT of t.v. Okay I am rambling now, I am off to read your discussions!

Well, don't overdo the physical, it gets harder as we age to get over the aches that causes.

@andriaperry Always a pleasure, Andria. Being in mylot for quite sometime or I guess for a short period of time, has made me look forward to growing old gracefully and nothing to be afraid about. I know that there are challenges you have gone thru but the fact that you face life with optimism, made me want to face the future ahead with a smile. So thank you. Hi Roscoe. Nice to meet you.

Were you able to get your blood drawn by anyone else before without bruising? Once in awhile I get an unexperienced or new nurse who does a painful job at drawing out my blood. Most times it is a breeze coming from someone who is scared of needles. Speaking of next week I'm getting my blood drawn. Pushing the limit is always nice, just when you do - don't forget to take the relaxing break you deserve. :) Have a good Saturday!

@andriaperry Oh I see! If they hire someone new, hopefully they'll draw the blood better, or the other nurse to be there. :) Thanks.

I'm glad for you that Tim is gone. I'm also sorry you pushed yourself to the limit and you're hurting today. My mother had Alzheimer's and she wasn't very active either. I try to keep active, mentally and physically.

There was a training nurse not that long ago that jabbed me pretty good. She left a bruise as well, and I have to say I have never bruised from a blood draw. Damned vampire she was. As for the dinner, if I had a choice, I'd go for the KFC.

I did! KFC. He is not new but vampire is not a bad enough word for his nursing skills.

Your Blood draw issue reminds me of me, and my adventures when they have to draw blood. And yes, I can relate with mind wandering when you are feeling like you have so much to talk about, but what?

When I have many thoughts I write them down, in a file I keep in the computer, I may take them later and use for a blog.

Sadly Alzheimer's will happen upon anyone. I know men and women who were professional people who were active, didn't watch much television, and had careers that kept them busy. You never know who will get it or why. Sad disease.

I know a few of the nurses from my stay in the hospital that I wish hadn't been there! I was all black and blue, from arm, hand to even 2 fingers! Well I'm a SAHM but don't do much TV more a reader, learner and outdoor person, sure hope it skips me. Truthfully wish it would skip everyone. Hope all has been well with you.

I try to keep body and mind active. I am 53 now and can still outwork a lot of the young pups out there. Of course that seems to be getting easier to do.
