Scary Children Stories

One thing that I find odd is that we tell our children scary stories. Some kids are okay with this and others aren't. I have heard a large numbwe of scary stories that are supposed to be for kids. There is that famous book, "Scary stories to tell in the dark." Do you think some kids like to be scared?

Almost every nursery rhyme we recite to our babies and young children have an element of fear in them. Rockabye baby in the treetop? We all know how that one ends. I am against telling scary stories to children.

I always felt the rock-a-bye baby song was rather gruesome to croon as a soothing song for a kid. I'm okay with scary stories to a point though. My sons crave them. Me? When I was a kid... not so much. So I guess it's a matter of individual tastes and also about how you manage the telling of the story.

I have noticed that as well. Kids love different things that can make them get those butterflies in their stomach!

The imagination of kids runs pretty wild to begin with, so it's crazy that we would want to fill their heads with even more scary stuff! But I guess each kid is different...some may like it, and some may be terrified. I actually loved horror stories and movies when I was a kid. I just couldn't get enough of that stuff!

I was the same way as a kid. Now I just can't stand that stuff all the time.

I think it depends on the child, out of my kids one of my sons loved ghost stories and watching scary movies from the time he was little and still does, the other two not so much. My grand children are the same, some like them and the others don't. I don't force anything on them, I let them decide.

That is very true. Each kid is different which is so much fun!

I think some like to be scared but with others, it can affect them too much.

@star_disgate No two are the same even if they've been brought under virtually the same circumstances.
