Are You Okay?

Last night my husband and I went out to dinner with dear friends of ours. We went to our favorite Italian restaurant and left our son and his bride alone in our house to order dinner for themselves. They had just returned from a romantic getaway in Boston. We had dinner reservations for 7:30, and our son joked saying that we'd be back home before 10:00, meaning not long enough for he and his bride to be alone together. As it turned out, we left the restaurant after 11:30. What a fabulous dinner we had and such fun with our friends. When the phone rang in the car close to midnight, it was our son. He asked if we were okay, where we were, and why we were so late?!? Everyone burst out laughing afterwards, but thought it was so sweet that he was so worried. Later, I found frantic text messages on my phone, too. Now the shoe is on the other foot! We did the same when our two sons went out.

Definitely! Too bad my older son doesn't worry as much, but he has a lot more on his plate to worry about.

@HazySue I have no idea. I only have the two boys. Our older one lives in NYC with his wife and two children., a good 1 1/2 hour ridge from us not counting traffic. Our younger son lives in our house right now with his bride, but lived 25 minutes from us before. Perhaps it's that he sees us more often.

@DianneN I wonder if it has anything to do with birth order. My oldest daughter seems to be less worried than my two younger ones.

Just consider yourself lucky that your son cares so much about you and your husband! It's nice that he was worried about you. And it is funny how eventually the tides turn between parents and children and that all of sudden they are doing the things to us that we did to them when they were younger!

@DianneN I always used to get so angry at my parents for worrying so much over every little aspect of my life when I was younger, but now I find myself doing the same thing with my kids. I even remember apologizing to my parents after my kids were born, because it finally hit home what all the fuss was about!

@moffittjc My father kept a tight noose around my neck, and I had to obey or else. I knew then they did it out of love. BUT, didn't we think we were all grown up in high school?
