Cleaning my Computer

When I went to bed last night my computer was barely functional. Today an Avast scan revealed that many of my drivers were out of date. So I have spent hours cleaning my computer that I had planned to spend reading or socializing online. In the process I've lost all my history with my last Chrome tabs open. I hate having to remember everything I was working on that's now closed. I always hate losing my browsing history. Now I have to plug in all my external drives again. I'm hoping my camera card reader will now work right again. It hasn't worked right in months. I always have to stop the photo imports manually with the Taskmaster. My malware program quarantined two updates I thought were important and I'm not sure how to get them out of quarantine so I can install them. They were drivers I really want. Have you cleaned up your hard drive and updated your drivers lately? I just got so tired of this crawling PC I bought the updater and cleaner that came with Avast. I'm just not smart enough to know what to delete and what to keep by myself. If you weren't cleaning your PC, what did you do today that was more fun?

@LadyDuck It would be easier if I understood exactly what I and the program were doing.

updates are necessary because some programs need the "updated" version of a certain program. but actually I don't like automatic updates, because it messes up the cycle of life of my laptop.

I like to be able to choose when to install updates. I normally have several programs open, and don't like having an update automatically restart my computer because that means the programs don't close down properly.

@bagarad yeah that's true. I hate the waiting in the update... sometimes it happens when I am about to sleep. argh!!! I can't turn off my laptop but I can't just leave it too. so I have to wait.

I'm still occupied with updating things online, and it appears I won't have any fun at all today.

@bagarad If I go near my computer I use a clean rag not wet to clean it with.. My technician takes good care of my computer.

That's good. I wish I had a technician I could call on that I could afford.

Hi Barbara. I understand now why you are unable to relax. So far, I have not cleaned my laptop. Well, my idea of fun is reading or mylotting or better yet talking to my mom who is always updated with everything. hehehe

For sure I'd much rather have my mom back to talk to that be messing with computer problems.

@bagarad I agree with you, Barbara. I prefer that too. Computer problems can be draining.

I usually delete temporary internet files and empty the garbage bin using standard Microsoft disk cleaner software, I won't buy expensive software that are at times heavy on my system.

computer scans and cleaning can take an eternity - out doing voluntary work today - leaving shortly

I do try to clean my laptop when it starts to run slow. I was out gardening for most of the day

Losing history is one of the things I hate with my devices
