Grammar Errors

I'm not talking about grammar on here, or the books I read, but an episode of Smallville, I happened to see this afternoon got my attention. The writers weren't paying attention as they wrote the script and added 'very' in front of 'unique'. Unique means one of a kind. So you can't have something be more unique than it already is, so to say very unique is grammatically wrong. Even my stating more unique is grammatically wrong. It's either unique or it isn't. Something to think about.

oh, thanks for this knowledge gained. now i know that the adverb 'very' should not be added to the adjective 'unique'.

@ridingbet No, it shouldn't. It's a stand alone word.

You are right, something it's unique or it's not.

@just4him This month of May (for the moment) is unique, we never had so much rain. This does not mean it will continue to be unique in the future.

Yes, it is. I can say this past winter was unique. It's not often we have a blizzard in April.

@LadyDuck I hope your unique weather patterns don't continue. It would be nice to see the sun.

You are really too learned, my dear friend. Because English is not my first language, I don't know about it. Thank you for sharing, and let me learn a little knowledge.

wow... thanks for the info... This brought me to make a research about unique and also "more" can't be use to compare one's uniqueness over the other.

I learned the lesson on 'unique' the hard way. Someone went off on a tangent about it. They weren't ranting to me, but I was there.

It's funny how when you're arrived that you pick these things up so easily and then you realise how often people make those mistakes.

I don't think I've arrived, but I did learn this one early. I was just surprised to hear it on a TV show.

You come across a lot of similar errors nowadays. Standards have really slipped when it comes to English and grammar.

More unique sounds strange to me too, if it is unique it can't be more than another thing.

Some of these grammatical errors are unique. You will not notice unless you are very good in English
