We have huge curry leaf trees that seasonally have flowers and fruits. The fruits are eaten by birds and today I saw a group of them having a great feast. I just picked one and tasted. It was sweet as honey. But not knowing if they are edible. I quickly did a google search and what do I see. Not only are they edible they have great health properties. I am still not sure if I will eat them in a hurry but will start with just a few at a time. The seeds are toxic but the juice is not. The fruits turn from green, red and finally black when they are fully ripe. Our ground is loaded with them at the moment and these seeds sprout and saplings are seen all over.
Curry berries are the fruit of the curry tree and grow in clusters consisting of 32-80 small fruits. Curry berries are round and approximately half an inch in...

@rebelann The sad part is in such situations there is the tendency to take things for granted.

I would love to be able to eat those berries. We do not have curry trees here, I buy dried leaves.

@LadyDuck What is exotic to you is ordinary here. Strange don't you think? You have something that you pull out from your garden which has health properties I forget the name and that I do not have here and would love to have it.

@allknowing If I could find seeds, I could try to plant a tree. I have to check a garden nursery that sells exotic plants.

If the birds can eat them, then usually they are not poisonous for us. But usually I still eat the normal fruits as I am not sure the unfamiliar one is delicious or edible or not.

I doubt if we can safely eat what birds eat and therefore it is better we first verify.

Not sure about that. I have seen birds eating stuff that is a no no for us human beings unless ofcourse one searches the Net and see if they are safe just as I found out about this.
