You know, usually I roll my eyes and continue on when parents post rants whenever a local school makes the choice to release early, delay start of school, or out right cancel school for the day because of weather hazards. Usually, their rants involve complaints about spending time with their kids (such a harsh punishment) or in some sad cases, because their little prize star cheerleader or athlete is going to miss something they want to do. They don't care at all about risking the lives of bus drivers or students in their kids class. They don't care at all. Its all about them and only them and their kids. Today, my seven year old was on the bus coming home from school. The expected time came and went. 10 minutes later.. still no bus. I check school site / communication portal and no alerts. Now, I'm panicked when its 30 minutes past her usual drop off time. I'm trying to get a hold of my husband whose at work and thankfully, my daughter already got to speak to him. She used a friends phone on the bus to call him. She was terrified. Living on this mountain, there are dangers when it snows or it rains. Today, the roads got flooded and the bus couldn't pass. My sister tried to go get her and the car floated. Yes, literally floated. and couldn't make it to the bus. Almost all of the roads, especially mine, are under water except for the tops of the hills. Thank you God and the county emergency workers who were able to rectify the situation and get the kids to safety and home. Why is risking the lives of kids like mine okay because parents don't want to deal with their kids more than they have to? I say that in plural because I normally have two on the bus but my five year old had a dr note to stay home today. :( :( I am currently ordering a few pizzas that daddy will pick up before he comes home from work. But seriously, my girl came in trembling and in shock. She didn't even smile at the thought of pizza but did smile because it meant I wasn't going to cook dinner.

Oh my god! Why didn't they send them home early!? I would be so angry. Your poor daughter, and I'm sure other kids !

They usually do! Which is why I'm mad they didn't. Some parents complained because they don't want their kids home during school hours.

@Courtlynn they do :( I was surprised when the principle made a comment that we were the first to inquire about the boy with the violent outbursts in class. like seriously? does no one talk to their kids to know what goes on inside the class room?

I hate to say it, but its true! one local mom was ranting about a school delay because it meant her daughter had to wait one more day to find out if she made it on the cheer squad! This was back when school was cancelled for a snow day after going through a mini blizzard.

Me too! I'm glad the driver was awesome and the county helped. Just thankful to have my girl and other kids home OK. Mad because people don't care about the kids that go through this or their safety

I'm very happy your daughter is safe. I've never been in that situation, but I'm sure I would be terrified too if the bus floated due to the roads being flooded. I'm glad the rescue people were able to get the kids to safety and their parents. Thumbs up to the rescue people.

@Daelii I've heard those responses and to me it's tragic. It's like children are an inconvenience to their lives.

It can be a very dangerous situation in bad weather. Especially since there are a lot of areas with a 10 foot or more drop off on the side of the road and streams/ rivers the bus could flip/ roll down into.

She got home okay too! We talked about our need to build an ark or at least a boat!
